A Beer Cloaked in Secrecy An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A beer brewed clandestinely and given a name whose meaning is never revealed. Why #9? Why, indeed. A sort of dry, crisp, fruity, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything else quite like it. Fermented with our 150 year old strain of top-fermenting English yeast.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2010 The Magic Hat flagship brew, as far as I’m concerned. A pseudo-complex taste that truly escapes description. Dry, sweet apricot comes close. You could savor this beer or session it. I recommend the latter. Buy a case and get after it. Cheers.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2009 2008-09-06, Draught at R.F.D., Washington DC, as Not Quite Pale Ale, 4-3-4-2-7=20
Deep blond color. A poor Ale, with soft corners and some baking yeast character, maybe a light fruit touch too.

Amber color; big head. Some malt flavor with a gentle fruitness; the aroma as well shows some redberry touch. Quite bitter at the end. Drinkable.

mcberko (17825) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 4, 2014
On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma is rather subtle, with English yeast, light fruitiness, and some bready malt. Flavour is very fruity, with notes of apple and pear upfront, followed by yeast and some dry but sweet finishing notes. Very low complexity. Not very interesting stuff.
