3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice floral hop aroma. Very generous hop flavors. Medium to medium heavy palate. Mild bitter finish.
kinda surprised this is an ipa. had it several times and thought it was an old ale with it’s aged malty character (not too malty) and alcohol like profile of a rye. mouthfeel is the same. SSKD814 (854) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 8, 2010
Summer Mystery Beer ’07
A- Hazy copper body with thin white head. Bubbles rise to the top.
S- Not much to pick up. Maybe hints of hops and honey.
T- Lots of sweet carmel malt at first. This is followed by a bitter hop aftertaste. The hop aftertaste lingers.
M- this is very highly carbonated with a medium wright body.
D- Its pretty drinkable. The hops and the malt blend pretty well together.

Had this beer labeled "The Summer Mystery Beer 07". I never guessed it was an IPA, let alone an Imperial. It was very citrusy, but had more weizen characteristics. Some caramel, some wheat, some citrus. Thin body. Nice smooth taste. Semi creamy mouthfeel. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - SEP 6, 2008
Cloudy yellow with a creamy white head. Barn yard funk and herbal aroma and good hop presence with a nice refreshing palate and dry finish. DocLock (10726) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 4, 2008
Thanks to obeygiant for this one. Pours deep copeery with ruby edges and off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, hops, vinous fruit. Tastes very hoppy in a piney sticky sense, with some caramel maltm, vinous fruit, and a smooth albeit slightly watery mouthfeel. Not bad, but I wish i could have had this one fresh.

Magic Hat never dissapoints me. This brew is a gift from Singlemalter: Pours a reddish brown colour with a very distinct sweet malted aroma. And followed up by a caramel finish. I thought it wasn’t that hoppy for an IPA, but delicious none the less! Slipstream (2651) - USA - NOV 30, 2007
The label is nothing great, but the beer looks okay. There is a small head that laces the glass, and a rich, sweet, fruity flavor. This was called the Summer Mystery Beer, and it is a full-bodied, strong-flavored ale. The taste is roasted grains, malt, and a little lemon and grapefruit. The hops are robust, especially in the finish. There was just a hint of skunk - the bottle might have been past its freshness date. This reminded me of some of the Lagunitas ales I have tried. It also made me wonder about the differences between IIPAs and APAs, since this seemed like it could be either. This is one of The Hat’s more powerful and interesting creations - I plan to try as many of their beers as I can find. xmarcnolanx (939) - Kirkwood, Missouri, USA - NOV 6, 2007
For a DIPA this has a really tiny aroma. Taste is mostly soapy and thin. Very average..... meh. Hawksfan17 (890) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - OCT 20, 2007
Had it under the name The Summer Mystery Beer. Pours a hazy amber. Smells of malt with notes of sweet chocolate. Taste hoppy, earthy, maybe peat. It is a very good beer to drink on a saturday afternoon. morrdt (715) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - OCT 10, 2007
12 oz. bottle from the Summer Sampler Pack, labeled as the mystery summer beer. This one pours a nice golden brown color with a small white head. The smell is lighty hoppy and seems a bit earthy, tangy and slightly nutty. The flavor was sweet and had a moderate fruit and floral hop presence with a sharp finish. Not bad, but doesn’t seem like an IIPA.
