this is the worst beer i have ever had in my life. Malt liquor tastes better than this. i almost vomited during a beer pong game trying to choke this stuff down. vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 17, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2003 Has a nice amber color and a hop smell. Taste is of hops and finishes way too bitter for me. Overall it was really not that good. Maybe I got a bad batch... P-tor44 (886) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - JUL 14, 2002
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2003 musty oaky black pepper and hops on the nose. Copper color witha agood sized pillowy head. Not very hoppy but with a musty strong oaky finish, very distinctive yeast MartinT (9880) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 7, 2002
Lusty hops with a dash of salt…Falling leaves and malty earth…Thirst-quenching… stephen (308) - California, USA - JUL 4, 2002
Lacked intense flavor and aroma I look for in an IPA - especially with cascades. Body was also a little weak. Seemed overfiltered. Overall, an OK beer and would like to try it on draft closer to the brewery!

First rated 6/20/01. Sweetier, fruitier flavor than most IPAs. Yes, as one reviewer notes, could be considered closer to an ESB in style. Flavor is orangey-spicy; big hop finish won’t disappoint fans of the style. With #9 and Heart of Darkness as the best I’ve had from this brewer. 6/26/02 Another one I have to drop a bit. Still like it, but it seems rather thinnish and a bit watery to me now. Not the fullest of IPAs, and the fruitiness doesn’t seem as pronounced. Fairly hoppy, though. tbookman (618) - Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 26, 2002
Not quite Sierra Nevada - but still good. Fruitiness with a crisp hop balance. good stuff. michaelm18 (118) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 17, 2002
Great hoppy flavor with a crisp aftertaste, almost as good as Sierra Nevada. Steak (124) - New York, USA - MAY 10, 2002
Not so much of a citrus smell, as a lot of IPAs have, but kind of a malty sweet aroma. Intial taste wasn’t much, but aftertaste was a curious balance of cirtus (grapefruit and orange) and the hops. Not in your face, but a twist on the normal conception of IPAs that works. Arnoud (35) - Hawthorne, New Jersey, USA - APR 19, 2002
Big hop nose, you know right away that it’s gonna be a typical American IPA. Hoppy taste but not so much that overwhelms the malt. Very drinkable. Think I’ll have another one......
