Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Fresh Market, Bedford. Appearance is clear, dark reddish brown with no sparkle, 1/2-finger width foamy beige head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, up to the edge of being burnt, molasses. Taste is relatively muted ashy/roasted malt with molasses and bitter ending. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with watery texture, soft-to-average carbonation and bittersweet roasted malty finish. Overall, showed some early promise but ended up being an underwhelming offering that I am finding all to prevalent from this brewer. Kleg (444) - The Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 21, 2017
Pitch black pour with a thick mocha head and great retention. Spotty lacing. Charred malts and light hops flavors. More dark than hops. A good mix of styles. Best black IPA I’ve had. crossovert (14128) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 25, 2017
355ml bottle. Brown/black pour. Aroma is mild pine, roasted malt. Flavor is fruity, grazzy, roasted malt, not very ipa-like, meh. markas101 (2529) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - MAR 2, 2017
Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Dark cola appearance. Roasted malt and dark chocolate aroma. More chocolate with the flavor. Hops creep through on the finish.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter style glass. Poured a dark brown with a one finger, creamy beige head. Patchy lace. Smells of chocolate malt, ever so faint smoke, disturbed earth and pine resin. Sorta sweet taste is immediately tamped down with a wave of pine resin and garden soil. Nice mix. Medium bodied with a short bitter finish. Nice black IPA. This tastes like a really bitter porter. It’s dark brown in color w/ a creamy white head. I get roasted notes up front which wane to a bit of citrus. Even though this is a bit sweet and would maybe seem a touch syrupy, the bitterness is kind of overpowering and makes this seem sort of thin and insubstantial. There is touch of an ashy note going on as well. This is drinkable overall but I can’t see myself seeking it out again. Strangebrewer (1372) - Chatham, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 21, 2017
