One of the better IPAs. Too many try to out-hop each other these days, but this is a nice example of balance and restraint. Pours a dark, almost black color with very little head. The Malts of chocolate and licorice give way to a slightly bitter finish. A nice, easy drinking beer.
Pitch black pour with a thick mocha head and great retention. Spotty lacing. Charred malts and light hops flavors. More dark than hops. A good mix of styles. Best black IPA I’ve had. crossovert (12666) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 25, 2017
355ml bottle. Brown/black pour. Aroma is mild pine, roasted malt. Flavor is fruity, grazzy, roasted malt, not very ipa-like, meh. markas101 (2435) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - MAR 2, 2017
Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Dark cola appearance. Roasted malt and dark chocolate aroma. More chocolate with the flavor. Hops creep through on the finish. mcox90 (2073) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 2, 2017
12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter style glass. Poured a dark brown with a one finger, creamy beige head. Patchy lace. Smells of chocolate malt, ever so faint smoke, disturbed earth and pine resin. Sorta sweet taste is immediately tamped down with a wave of pine resin and garden soil. Nice mix. Medium bodied with a short bitter finish. Nice black IPA. This tastes like a really bitter porter. It’s dark brown in color w/ a creamy white head. I get roasted notes up front which wane to a bit of citrus. Even though this is a bit sweet and would maybe seem a touch syrupy, the bitterness is kind of overpowering and makes this seem sort of thin and insubstantial. There is touch of an ashy note going on as well. This is drinkable overall but I can’t see myself seeking it out again.

bottle. Poured dark brown with a creamy tan head. Roasty malt aroma. Medium body, active carbonation, bitter astringent finish. Flavour of burnt malt, notes of smoke, coffee, treacle, slightly acidic teamrunkle (381) - Nova Scotia, CANADA - JAN 19, 2017

12oz bottle. Black pour, light brown peripheral head. Roasted malts and a bit of grassy hops. Light and crisp, but a bit thin. Roasty bitter finish. ryanscourt (1458) - Latrobe, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 13, 2016
Not a whole lot to be excited about. LIght bitter roasted flavors, lack of complexity, thin body.
