A roasty malty mess of a beer. Just not very good. Plain roasted malts come through and dominate any sort of hops. Not much complexity. Excited when I saw this. Bored now that Im drinking it especially for the style. Not quite a drain pour but poorly executed.

Bottle. Not at all what I expected based on "Black IPA"... more like an overcarbonated brown. Not one for me to run or walk back to.

355 ml bottle. 201 6355. BB Jan 20 2013. (Systembolaget) stersund, Sweden.
Reddish black colour with small to average size tan head. Very mild aroma of mildly roasted malt and horse parsley. Flavour is roasted malt, mild hops, mild bitterness and soapy solvent. Hmm... boring and unimaginative. Very watery. Disappointment.

Blah. A boring black IPA. Aroma was weak. Light roasted malt presence with a hint of coffee. Pour was a deep dark brown that was very still and a one finger off white head. Taste was very thin and weak. There is a strong coffee and roasted malt backbone that never really lets any hops come in. Tastes more like a porter until the hoppy bitter aftertaste grabs the tonsils. Too little too late. Nice cabonation.

Well, I guess a black ipa is not an imperial stout now, is it? Pine tar mild aroma. First taste is big bitter impact along with a stouty or porter background. Stronger deep beer with personality. Yes, just as rude as many imp stouts and in the same way. A little sizzly. Wew, plowing action down between the side of my cheeks and my teeth. Yes a dark beer it is fer sher, wew. Long bitter dark beer finish like a baltic porter with an ipa bite. Is it possible my palate is getting numbed and ruined from IPA? Nasty nellie.

Very dark brown pour with a thin beige head. The nose is earthen manure with hints of citrus and pine. An ashy burnt malt character, not unlike the leftovers at the bottom of a frying pan (think burnt toast) comes through as well. The flavor holds more pine and citrus hop notes, though they are not very powerful, which makes it easy for further burnt malt incarnations to come through. The palate is light to medium with a charry finish.

Bottle into a goblet. Pours a black brown with a light head. A malt heavy taste with no hops. A bitter finish that sticks around. A very poor black ipa, no hops all malt. Its a ok beer but not an ipa by far.
