Dark as all hell... with a suntanned head. Really nice roasty-toasty-coffee flavors. Body and mouthfeel didn’t have as much ’heart’ as its darkness though; seemed just a little thin. I thought that it needed a little more malt ’backbone’ to balance out it’s severe robustness. And it seemed to be pretty light on the hops, which isn’t necessarily expected in a stout, but it’s just something I like. I kind of had a love/hate thing going with this beer. Maybe the mysterious ways of Magic Hat are getting to me? turtlehead (111) - Nottingham, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 5, 2002
What a great beer. Lots of sweet malt, coffee, roast, and strangely enough, a lot of chocolate (more typical of a robust porter). It almost tasted as if the grain bill included equal portions of roasted barley and chocolate malt. Again, great stuff. jpfisher99 (16) - Troy, New York, USA - FEB 13, 2002

Dark black with dark brown foam. Very burnt and dry, but short, flavour. Dangerously drinkable.

High hopes off the name. It pours wonderfully with a beautiful, dark, lasting head. Smells nice like a fine french roast. Taste: Wheres the body? Whose got the body? Way to lacking in malty chewiness and was a real dissapointment. Certainly not enough abv to warrnt being a winter warmer. Definately, a magic hat best. Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - DEC 1, 2001
This beer didn’t seem full enough. Light for an oatmeal stout. cruz22499 (20) - Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 22, 2001
Great outmeal stout, one of my all time favorite stout, and my favorite Magic Hat beer. Love the bittersweet chocolate flavor. ericmoss3799 (73) - Warwick, Rhode Island, USA - OCT 11, 2001
