This is a picture perfect stout w/ a long lasting head of very fine white bubbles on top of a deep garnet black beer. It unfortunately does not smell or taste quite as good as it looks but it still isn’t too shabby in that department either. It’s got a heavily sugared coffee sort of taste w/ a creamy texture--a combination that really works well in my opinion. I am not necessarily inclined to think of Magic Hat as one of my favorite breweries but if they made more beers this good, they would be. zvikar (6465) - Ramat Gan, ISRAEL - FEB 13, 2013
Bottle sampled at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks DSG. Pours brown to black with a beige head, aroma of roast, coffee, chocolate, sugar, aroma of hops, smoke, chocolate, coffee, dried fruits, medium bodied Jblauvs (1357) - Chester, Vermont, USA - FEB 13, 2013
Dark brown/black pour. Aroma is sweet chocolate bar, toffee, molasses, and a bit of char. Sticky, syrupy mouthfeel. Flavor is sticky chocolate, licorice, molasses, very sweet and a bit difficult to drink for a sub 6% beer. Not bad, but not something I really care for. Black with creamy thick cocoa colored head. Sweet roasted malts in the nose. Taste- bitter coffee and slight chocolate. Usually not a Magic Hat fan, but this one is solid. Lowe1983 (1634) - Dayton, Ohio, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is strong of chocolate, roasted malts, and some molasses. Flavor isn’t quite as good as I thought it would be from the aroma. Malty flavor dominates with some sweetness on the finish.

Impressive deep rich black almost purplish body with a creamy head. Aroma is roasted coffee with a hint of toffee. A very flavorful mocha carmel again with hints of coffee. Leaves a sweet toffee finish. Definitely one to be enjoyed slowly. Recommended. berrya785 (441) - Kansas, USA - FEB 8, 2013
Pours black with a two-finger tan head with some retention and excellent lacing. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, and toasted oats. Taste is the same with a little hop bitterness. AndyW68 (1602) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - FEB 8, 2013
Dark brown with light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is a little yeasty, bitter chocolate and a sweet floral finish. Disabledbobcat (10) - - FEB 7, 2013
Aroma: Very malt forward, roasty aroma. I found the aroma to be very pleasant and exactly what I expected.
Appearance: Very dark, almost perfectly black. There is slight residual lacing in the glass. Small tan head, which dissipated quickly.
Taste: Excellent roasted flavors, just a touch sweet, but nowhere near too much. Finishes dry and leaves a slight lingering roasted flavor on the tongue. Very pleasant.
Palate: Good medium carbonation, medium mouth feel. Exactly what I expected.
Overall: This is not a complicated beer, but it is delicious. Exactly what I was looking for in a low ABV stout. I would definitely get this again. It’s not world class, but it’s very drinkable. guzzler67 (1696) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - FEB 6, 2013
Large tan head faded fast and left decent lacing. Roasted malt aroma with hints of nuts and bitter chocolate. Solid, earthy, roasted malt flavors give way to floral hops in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel with an average length finish.
