12oz bottle poured into a tumbler glass.
Black color with some clear burgundy hues and a small mocha head.
Roasted coffee aroma, with earthy hops, dark chocolate and some carobs.
Dark chocolate flavors, with some fresh coffee, soft licorice and medium bitterness.
Medium bodied, well balanced, rich and satisfying. Nice. atlrizzob (225) - Aiken, South Carolina, USA - FEB 1, 2013
Rich stout. Very dark colour. Smells of roasted coffee bean. Smooth toasty malt flavour with light coffee aftertaste. Significantly better than most Magic Hat beers ive had. cbkschubert (2901) - BFE, Arizona, USA - FEB 1, 2013
12 oz. bottle via trade with smith4498 - Pours a dark brown color with a two finger thick tan head. Nice layered lacing. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, and light chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt with light coffee and chocolate. Light to medium body. Finish is thin and dry. This beer is kinda one dimensional. Still, it’s pretty good. Thanks Jason. kerenmk (4751) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - JAN 31, 2013
Bottle sampled at a tasting at our place. Thanks DSG. Pours purple-black with tan ring. Wood, a little dry and some raisins in the nose. Wooden, dry, bitter taste with hints of sweetness. Medium-to-full body, wooden finish. Fun! Brewdork (228) - Sanford, Florida, USA - JAN 29, 2013
Pours black with thick creamy tan head. Nice smoky flavor and smooth mouthfeel. A decent stout overall.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2014 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a thick black color with a huge foamy dark tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was semi-sweet licorice, coffee, a bit of roasty malts and fruity hops. The flavor was dry, bitter and roasty with notes of coffee, licorice, floral hops and wood. Medium length finish of licorice, wood and roasty malts. Medium body. Disappointing. valpoaj (744) - Valparaiso, Indiana, USA - JAN 27, 2013
Bottle pour - black with thin cream colored head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is quite nice...lots of chocolate, coffee, hint of caramel, some vanilla, bit of wood - very pleasant and inviting. Flavor is mild and not half bad either - roasted malts, some chocolate, hint of coffee, medium level of bitterness - finish is a back and forth between the sweet and bitter. Palate is about average for the style. Definitely a stout I’d enjoy again in the future. Kinz (3786) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Richmond 19th "warm up" beer. You know, beer you drink at a gathering while waiting for everyone else to show up, since you clearly need a beer before you drink for the next 10 hours or so. Deep brown appearance, chocolate aroma. Flavor chocolate, slightly fruity. Thin bodied. Not that great. collinmb (66) - - JAN 25, 2013
Im surprised at peoples ratings for this beer. I feel like it taste more like a coffee than a beer. Light hints of chocolate but in my opinion too over powered by a roasted coffee flavor. Strong color, weak after taste. Would not order again.
