Filled with the howling of black dogs that haunt the long forgotten shadows of the human soul.

Our inky-black stout had a smooth, round palate with a dreamlike undercurrent of bittersweet chocolate. This dense liquid-silk summoned hope from hibernation and balanced winter’s endless white snows with a rich swirl of creamy black rapture.

Dusty, nutty malt aroma. Some sugary sweetness. Brown color with a red tinge. Decent off-white head; completely opaque. Flavor is sweet, nutty malts, like an oatmeal. Hazelnut at first, then sweeter. Touch of tobacco ashes. A curious blend. Palate is sandpapery. Medium-bodied. Magic Hat surprises. This is a solid stout/porter. Nice and nutty. It’s so competent that Magic Hat will surely discontinue it soon.

Single bottle. Completely opaque, dark dark brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma is what you’d expect - dark chocolate, coffee grounds, roasted malts. Taste follows. Not much to talk about with this one, just a good solid stout.

12oz bottle, from my super sneaky mixed six from the far sighted hare .. . ddep brown black .. ok head, lacing is good .. . ink and minerals, with light tar too .. . gotta say, it is quite a nice stout but a single bottle is just fine .. . . coming up next, a super set of songs about clouds....

23 nov 3012, bottle. Dark brown/black. Nose is big, white coffee. Thin body and mildly fizzy. Decent session stout. Coffe and dry chocolate finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours rich black with fine head of tiny tan bubbles. Nose is dry and rich dark cocoa. Taste is black coffee with just a hint of sugar on the tip, sweetness broadens and resolves with good bitters at the end. The body is smooth just a slight bit of friskiness.

The aroma is burnt and toasted with chocolate coffee adjunct malt and cola. The appearance is brown with a tan head. The taste is like the aroma with a weak bitter finish. The palate is a but thin. Overall an average stout but ok.

Pours black with a medium sized darker tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is mostly a mixture smokiness and licorice, with some roasted malts and some coffee in there as well. The taste loses some of the smoky appeal, but retains much of the initial impressions I gained from the smell. I also get a bit of fruitiness as well, that being some cherry. Hints of chocolate as well. This has an oliy texture with a body that isn’t exactly light, but by no means heavy either. The only fault that I can find is that there isn’t to much of an aftertaste except for kind of a vinegary bitterness, which I don’t actually mind. I’m very happy with this one. Its one of the best seasonal beers that I’ve had this so far early holiday season.

Bottle. Pours nice and dark with a decent head and aromas of toasty malt, chocolate and dark fruit. Flavor is a charming mix of chocolate and toasty stout Flavors. Mouthfeel is fairly silky and finish is sweet and chocolatey.

craig220 (313) - Crofton, Maryland, USA - NOV 20, 2012
Poured a black/brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, nuts, toast, and caramel. Taste is chocolate, coffee, and nuts (very tasty). Feels light to medium bodied with a slight bitter finish.
