3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma is nice, smokey, burnt malt. Hints of coffee. It has the mouth-feel of an oatmeal stout while tasting like a smoked porter or imperial stout. The taste of smoke is subdued, so not offensive. The bitter hop finish that reminds me of an imperial stout isn’t overdone. I don’t get the coffee as much upon tasting as I did in the nose. Overall, a good beer that I can appreciate, but I prefer milk stouts and heavier imperials. The only thing really lacking is thickness in the mouth-feel.
Nice roasted coffee aroma with some smoke character. Pours a black in color with a light tan-colored head. Flavor carries coffee with cream and chocolate. A pretty good stout and not too high in ABV. oldrtybastrd (5003) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 14, 2016
Pours a dark brown, with a small tan head. Aromas of faint chocolate with some roasted malts. Flavor isn’t as big as I like, a little chocolate/coffee and some mild hops. Sirmixsomewhat (266) - Paoli, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 10, 2015
Admittedly, I’m not a stout drinker, so when I do drink a stout, I’m doing it more for the sake of seeing if my taste has changed than I am just to pour a beer into my mouth. That said, I didn’t like this beer very much and thought it was too strong/bitter, but don’t take my word as gospel regarding anything stout-related. Don’t do it! Stop reading this! Bottle from State Line. Deep brown pour with tan head. Roasty dark malt in the nose some molasses, cacao, same in the flavor, vanilla, oats, cacao, not very complex, somewhat watery. slowrunner77 (12460) - Reno, Nevada, USA - AUG 30, 2014
Malty in the chocolate malt balls kind of way, like Whoppers candy. A little thin and one dimensional, but a pleasant enough stout that goes down easy jtclockwork (16857) - , New Jersey, USA - AUG 19, 2014

Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a nearly pitch black colored brew with a billowy tan head. The head has a good level of retention, fading slowly to give a nice level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is quite nice and delicious. It is heaviest of a good deal of coffee some sweet caramel and some chocolate aromas. Mixed with these aromas are lighter notes of a oatmeal as well as vanilla aroma.
Taste – The flavors begin with a strong roasted malt and oat flavor mixed with some sweet caramel flavors. As the flavors advance further vanilla come to the tongue. These linger along and as the taste advances more toward the end with some flavors of a bitter coffee flavor coming in. In the end, with the roastiness fading a bit, one is left with a pleasant, dark yet somewhat sweet flavor left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is rather average in terms of creaminess with a carbonation level that is slightly below average. A little bit more creaminess in the body would have been better for the style, but considering the abv. and drinkability that is afforded by the brew, it is overall quite good.
Overall –A quite tasty and balanced stout at only 5.7 % abv. The blend of flavors and their transitions are all very nice.
