The HiCu pours a mostly cloudy yellow orange with a thick foamy off-white head that lasts a long while and leaves excellent lacing. The aroma is very vegetable heavy. The flavor is cucumber and the hibiscus standing out with little surprise. Overall this is a decent beer. I believe they achieved what they were going for but you have to be in the mood for a vegetable beer.

12 fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours clear copper with a small white head hardly any lacing . Aroma is mostly cucumber mixed with some malts. Taste is sweet caramel, combined with cucumber some yeast and some floral notes. Interesting beer, glad I tried but I don’t think is my type of beer; however very refreshing and will do good on warm days. DocLock (11189) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 7, 2013
Bottle from Capone’s. Pours coppery with dark straw edges and a finger of frothy off-white head. Nose is big cucumber, caramel malt, florals. The cucumber nose is authentic. Tastes refreshing, with a cucumber flavor up front, a crisp hopcitric middle, and some caramel malt in the finish. This one is nice. wlajwl (7198) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - JUN 5, 2013
UPDATED: SEP 1, 2013 Aroma is cucumber, medium sweetness and spices. The flavor is cucumbers, spices and citrus hops in the finish. MrBunn (2865) - The Wet Side of a Dry Town, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 4, 2013
Bottle. Pours a caramel/copper color with a smallish head and aromas of... wow... cucumbers. Didn’t know that could be a dominant aroma like that. Flavor is a bit of a mess... A caramel and floral undercurrent with a dominating (almost fake) cucumber presence. This would be much better (in my opinion) as a pale beer without the hibiscus/floral component to muddle the waters, but it is certainly interesting.

Gross. Like drinking a bad benexictine sandwich. I would not have put this out on the off chance this would be the first magic hat product someone tried. Bamaboy1975 (248) - Suffolk, Virginia, USA - MAY 22, 2013
Appearance - pours a clear, light amber with a frothy white head two fingers that lasts only seconds
Smell - high fruit aromas of cucumber. bitter smelling that seems to be coming stickily from the cucumbers and not hops. Hint of floral (hibiscus).
Taste - intense cucumbers dominate the palate with very, very little resemblance of beer. No malts, very little yeast, and very little hop finish. Tangy, floral aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - extremely low carbonation, with a semi-dry feeling.
Overall - not much of a beer flavor. Tastes almost identical to water with a cucumber inside it. Has a summer feeling, but way too much fruit flavor for my liking.

Looks nice, smells of vegetables, almost like celery. Taste is kind of gross though, can not drink more than one JStax (7306) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - MAY 11, 2013
12 ounce bottle. Pours a translucent copperhaith a big, white head of foam. The aroma has a jolly rancher hibiscus character with not much cucumber coming through. Tastes like cardboard that’s been soaked in a very sweet wine. The Taste really sticks with you on this one. Not my thing, I guess. CharmCityCrab (249) - Maryland, USA - MAY 4, 2013
Strong tangy watermelon taste with bitter hops. Something different. A good change of pace beer, but not something one would want to drink everyday. Honestly, though this is nothing amazing, I am pleasantly surprised. I feared this could go horriblely wrong like the elderberry thing this shares a summer mix pack with, and I feel confident in saying it didn?t go horriblely wrong. Replace the elderberry beer with that old red radish thing they used to put in their summer mix pack, and it really wouldn?t be a bad pack. Three change of pace brews (counting #9) and a passable IPA. You?d want to maybe pair it with a 12 pack of your favorite normal beer in your fridge for those days when you just feel like an IPA, lager, or whatever your pleasure is, but this would be interesting diversion (Especially bought on sale- got it for $1 more than 12 Budweisers, great deal). The elderberry thing kind of kills my chances of getting a second mix pack, though. This particular beer is good in its own atypical way, however. I didn’t expect a cucumber beer to taste like tangy watermelon with hops, but its not bad. I’ve never tasted anything quite like this, and exploration is probably a key aspect of variety pack’s m.o., and so to the degree that was what they were attempting to do, this beer succeeds, even though I don’t see beers with this taste profile sweeping the nation as the next big thing or whatever.
