COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hi.P.A. is a medium-bodied groove with a fresh and fruitful nose of tympanic temptation. It begins and ends with a big hop bite that is itself forever balanced on the brink by a steady rhythm of malt. Dry-hopped for extra quenching in the face of heat and beat, it’s an ideal accompaniment to chilling out, turning inward or sailing onward through the music of the night toward the dawn of the mind. It’s the liquid way to say be here now lest you never come this way again.

Color is a solid cloud of yellow haze, a bit orangy, strong lasting yellowish spongy foamed head about a finger high and lots of sticky lace in stringy sheets. Aroma is quite heavenly hopped, fat and juicy pineyness with some citrus of lemon and grapefruit rinds. Taste is a nice steady leveled amount of great piney hoppyness, good freshness, moderate amounts of fatness and juicyness, very tolerable bitterness lending pine and slight grapefruit. Has some slight honey and biscuit tones in the back which is very nice and a bit of other citrusy action as well. Good hoppy bitterness and drying that just touches the tongue for some tingleyness and coats the mouth lightly in the finish. Quite nice. Feel is a solid medium body, favorable but accepting amounts of bitterness closing off into the finish with a good light covering of puckered drying and sour pine. Some yummy stuff and very drinkable. Recommended for all IPA lovers, cuz this'll do just dandy.

Magic Hat Hi.P.A. is a clear and sparkling golden ale with a fluffy white head, dorned with oily bubbles, that leaves thick foamy lacing on the glass. The aroma fills the room. It smells dry hopped-- mostly pine and perhaps tangerine. The malt is a bit muted but biscuity. There is something dry and earthy underneath it all. It is medium bodied, smooth and silky. The finish is crisp and the palate is left clean. The flavor is well balanced. The hops are mostly piny but the tangerine from the aroma is more prevalent here. The aftertaste is shorter than expected and it leaves me thirsty for another sip. This is a great example of a modern American IPA. This must be the best thing I’ve ever had from Magic Hat. This six pack is about to vanish!

Tried bottled Magic Hat Hi.P.A on 4/24/08. Purchased at Harris Teeter in Durham, NC. For reference, I usually stick to Dogfish Head 60 Minute or Victory Hopdevil, but I saw this seasonal and wanted to give it a try. I was very impressed by Magic Hat’s effort. I’ve got a soft spot for IPA’s and I’ve tried my share, this is in my top 5. The one weakness is on aroma - not much there. Other than that, this is a terrific beer. Nice amber color, great flavor and palate. Best of all is that the hoppiness to this beer has character. It’s not overwhelming at all, but you taste it from beginning to end. Not quite a pine flavor, more like spearmint. If you like IPA’s, this is definitely worth a try.

Nice heavy IPA. My favorite brew by Magic Hat. Really wish they would brew this more than #9

Growler from the brewpub. Pours amber, with a nice sized white head, mostly diminished to leave good lace on the glass. Aroma is pretty much all hops - floral, citrus, and grassy. Flavor follows, with a strong citrus punch that has a lot of pineapple in it. Body is medium, flavors long and lingering. A great IPA.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2004 Citrus and pine hop aromas. Hazy light light orange/tan colour with thin white head that dissipates fairly quickly with some lacing. Lots of citrusy hop flavour with pine notes as in the aroma and an underlying sweetness. Alcohol not apparent in the flavour at all. Body is medium, perhaps could use a bit more mouthfeel to support the hops. Definitely balanced towards the hops, this is quite the tasty IPA. On tap at the brewery and bottled. Resampled at Mondial 2004 and I still love this one.

First, let me say that I am not a big fan of Magic Hat beers...until now! This beer was really good. One of my major complaints with Magic Hat was that you never knew what you were getting in their beers by the descriptions on the labels or on their website. The label on this beer lets you know immediately that you are getting an IPA. That is a refreshing change from other Magic Hat beers which give you all kinds of cryptic messages which you are supposed to decipher in the beer store before you have even tried the beer. Thank goodness this beer didn’t possess one of those cryptic labels, otherwise I wouldn’t have purchased it. I also really liked the commercial description of this beer. It brought me back to the 60’s/70’s via a "beer flashback". Now for my sensory perceptions regarding this delicious nectar of the Gods. This beer poured with a good sized head which lasted and lasted, leaving adequate amounts of lacing on the glass. This lasted until the end of the beer (what a beautiful thing)! The smell was of citrus and hops. It was an absolutely beautiful aroma for a beer. The taste was hoppy as a hornet, with a long lasting bitter aftertaste which let me know that the hops meant business. I loved this beer and will not be such a Magic Hat snob in the future, providing that their labels clearly tell what kind of beer is inside. I would definately buy this delicious beverage againa and again and again!

Huge citrus hops. Great mouth feel. I’ve had 5...should I have another? Pouring into glass.....huge head....orangish color (as I hold on eye closed) Another hit from magic hat! a pretty good IPA from South Burlingotn once again!

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2008 It has a great hazy appearance with a golden honey color. The aroma is full of floral hops up front with malt and yeast notes in the background. Its flavor has an herbal and almost fruity hop character with a heavy supportive base of toasted malts and doughy yeast that adds a nice complexity. It has a silky light to medium body that’s a little bit oily and has a fairly short dry finish. Wonderful.
