From a bottle poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Light smokey malty flavor with a quick finish. Butters (4176) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 27, 2013
Pours a clear dark brown with no head. Mildly smokey, not overly done. Mild earthy smoke, caramel, roast, with backflavor of ham. Not amazing. But not a disappointment. swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - JAN 26, 2013
draft at Coles, black pour, chocolate notes, light smoke, roasted maltiness. lighter mouthfeel, smoke content would fall short of a true smoked beer. Not overlysmoked but its better than I thought it would be. ok Aniela (4215) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JAN 25, 2013
Draught at Rattle & Hum NYC sept 2012. Black beer with a tanned big lacy head. Vanilla, coffee, tar, licorice, chocolate aroma. Tar, licorice, viola, coffe flavour with nice chocolate notes. LinusStick (3514) - Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 22, 2013
Meh...a very average beer. Aroma was alright. Heavy on the roasted malt and chocolate with a slight hint of smoke. Pour was a deep dark brown with a one finger near tan head. Taste was a little off. The heavy roasted malt and chocolate overpowered in the beginning. The smoke seemed to be an afterthought and almost tasted medicinal. Slight band-aid flavor in the finish. Decent carbonation.

Sample, brown bottle, 750 ml; eye: black, opaque, tiny ring of brown head, no lacing; nose: smoke, acridness, dark chocolate; mouth: acridness, burnt barley, roasting, light hops, finale in smoke with presence of burnt barley, full body, good carbonation, lightly bitter, lightly harsh texture; overall: once is enough
Bottle. Pours a clear brown body with a one finger tight bubbled beige head that faded to a thin film. The nose is decently smoky with a heavier emphasis on the Porter qualities. Rather chocolaty with cocoa nibs, light coffee, and a little roast. The flavor is just lightly smoky, a bit on the sweeter side with a lot of chocolate malt. I wish it were a bit smokier. Finishes with a sweet chocolate note that sort of overpowers the smoke. Medium bodied, a bit clingy, with soft fizzy carbonation. Not a bad beer, but for the style it doesn’t hold up in the smoke department. Beerdedone (3457) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 22, 2012
Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke and chocolate. Flavor was smokey with roasted malts, chocolate, a bit of caramel and a hint of coffee with a nice roasted finish. EvanFriend (634) - Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 8, 2012
Kinda tastes like burnt chocolate milk. No real smokey flavor, just burnt. Not completely horrible, but not great either. I suppose this is about as good as you can expect from Magic Hat. I was disappointed.
