Kind of an average smoked beer. Not much sense of a porter here. Pours dark brown with decent head and lacing. Finishes burnt bitter. Not a huge taste and palate a little simple. Bottle.

Draft at Shortys with Paul and Andy. Pours a deep amber brown body with thin off white lacing. Aroma is smoke, roasted malts, toast, spice and smoked malts. Mouthfeel is thin with notes of smoke, spice and toasted malts. Not terrible, but verging on bland.

draft at Coles, black pour, chocolate notes, light smoke, roasted maltiness. lighter mouthfeel, smoke content would fall short of a true smoked beer. Not overlysmoked but its better than I thought it would be. ok

Son-in-Law and I shared a 0.73 litre bottle he brought back from Philadelphia last year: it was broached on 6th Feb 2014, smoking! One of the most intensely smoked beers I’ve ever had, I struggled to pick up any other flavours at first because of the burnt smoky depth it had. Slowly dark chocolate and ground coffee esters began to fight their way through the ashtray style feel. We managed to finish it off, just: we’ll not be having another. I’ve tried to score it objectively.

Bottle. Pours a clear brown body with a one finger tight bubbled beige head that faded to a thin film. The nose is decently smoky with a heavier emphasis on the Porter qualities. Rather chocolaty with cocoa nibs, light coffee, and a little roast. The flavor is just lightly smoky, a bit on the sweeter side with a lot of chocolate malt. I wish it were a bit smokier. Finishes with a sweet chocolate note that sort of overpowers the smoke. Medium bodied, a bit clingy, with soft fizzy carbonation. Not a bad beer, but for the style it doesn’t hold up in the smoke department.

Bottle: Poured a brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light smoked malt notes with light roasted malt notes and some weird overcooked vegetables noted which are not really pleasant. Taste is smokier then the aroma with light roasted malt notes and that weird vegetables notes still coning through way too strongly. Body is a bit light for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. The fact that most of the bottle ended up in the drain is probably a good representation of my degree of enjoyment of this beer.

Deep dark brown body with a nice, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of smoked malt, peat, roasted peanuts, earth, caramel and a nice smooth pit fruit flavour. Medium-bodied; Dense earthy flavour of peat, smoked malt, caramel, toffee and a bit of hazlenuts. Aftertaste shows some subdued sweetness, a lot of smoked grain and a touch of specialty grains, some pumpkin and squash and a bit of raisins. Overall,a nice beer and a good smoked option! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased a few minutes ago from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 01-November-2013 for US$3.00, yes 3 Dollars for the 750 mL bottle!!!, sampled a few minutes later on 01-November-2013 in my hotel room here in New York.

750 ml cork and caged bottle purchased at Spirits Red Bank, I think. Poured a pitch black, although only medium density, jet black with an average sized fuller dark beige head. Aroma was chocolate pudding skins, light campgfire smoke and pork with light chocolate. the body seemed thin at first but with some warming the body thickened as the carbonation dropped off, finishes slightly acidic somehow with a lingering slight burn. Flavor is much like the aroma with he initial nod goig to wet burnt toast, campfire, pork and finishing with light burnt dark chocolate. Solid especially for a Magic Hat.
