Bottle shared by MikeLovesBeer.com. Never really been too keen on smoked beers but this one wasn’t too bad. Smokey..yes but not to the point where I was turned off by it. One I’d like to try again. keanex (1799) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - OCT 12, 2012

750 ml cork and caged bottle purchased at Spirits Red Bank, I think. Poured a pitch black, although only medium density, jet black with an average sized fuller dark beige head. Aroma was chocolate pudding skins, light campgfire smoke and pork with light chocolate. the body seemed thin at first but with some warming the body thickened as the carbonation dropped off, finishes slightly acidic somehow with a lingering slight burn. Flavor is much like the aroma with he initial nod goig to wet burnt toast, campfire, pork and finishing with light burnt dark chocolate. Solid especially for a Magic Hat. thornecb (5997) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 14, 2012
Pours light black into an English pint. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Smoke and caramel aromas. Thin with sweet dark caramel upfront turning to smoky chocolate in the lasting roasty finish.

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with frothy beige head; decent retention and spare lacing. Aroma is roast malt, caramel, earthy hops, plums, figs, smoke, and light coffee. Flavor is roast malt forward with heavy smoke, pork, earthy hops, dark fruit esters, and dark chocolate; dry, smokey finish. medium body and carbonation. Pours a clear dark brown with no head. Mildly smokey, not overly done. Mild earthy smoke, caramel, roast, with backflavor of ham. Not amazing. But not a disappointment. superspak (5803) - Michigan, USA - MAR 9, 2013
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, August 2012 bottling. Pours clear almost pitch black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of raisin, apple, molasses, chocolate, roasted malt, toast, smoke, light char, light coffee, floral, and roasted earthiness. Decent aromas with solid balance and complexity of roasted notes; but a bit too fruity. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt, raisin, toast, molasses, smoke, light char, dark bread, and light roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, toast, raisin, molasses, smoke, light char, dark bread, light wood, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Pretty good balance and complexity of roasted flavors with moderate smokiness; fair amount of robustness; and minimal cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with nearly zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a solid smoked porter. A bit too fruity in the aromas, but has some solid balance of roasted flavor and smokiness; and is very smooth to sip on. A fairly enjoyable offering. cbkschubert (2901) - BFE, Arizona, USA - OCT 12, 2013
750 ml bottle via trade - Pours a dark brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Decent lacing. Aroma is a doughy toasted malt, smoke, and light chocolate. Flavor is smoke, lightly sweetened roasted malt, and chocolate. The sweet malt lingers a bit, but it finishes kinda dry. Medium to full body. Boy, this one just won’t go away. 26 oz bottle. Dark brown with a tannish head. Nose is smoke with hints of coffee and molasses. Silky medium body with a faint tingle. Taste is caramel, coffee, cola and smoke. As it warms more fruity with raisin and plum, the sweetness helping to balance the smoke.
