Pours hazy yellow gold with a white head. Aroma is banana, bubble gum and citrus. Flavor is light crisp wheat with a nice bitter finish and a little citrus that shows up more as you drink. Not bad, an easy drinking hoppy wheat brew. DocLock (10683) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 18, 2010
Medium gold pour with white head. Nose was slight pale malt and hopcitrus, with the same flavor,m not much complexity, and a bit watery on the palate. chicowv (478) - Canaan Valley, West Virginia, USA - MAY 16, 2010

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2011 Bottle. Pours hazy gold with a small white head. Aromas of orangepeel, peaches, and clove. Slightly bitter citrus peel flavor, along with oranges, spices, and some fruit sweetness. A little thin, with low carbonation, but an easy drinker. Good. Re-rated 1.29.11, bottle from seasonal 12-pack. Pours hazy copper with a small fluffy white head. Aromas of sweet pine, papaya/tropical fruit, and rock candy. The flavor is pine and floral hops, slightly sweet, with some funky fruit notes. Medium carbonation and medium to full body make this pretty drinkable. This is pretty nice, and really very different from my first rating (and what I remember). Makes me wonder if I got a shit bottle the first time, but this batch is pretty solid; hoppy, fruity, a little sweet, and sessionable. 8/3/7/3//14. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - MAY 11, 2010

Light aroma of malt and floral hops. Fizzy thin head with slightly hazy golden yellow beer. Bready and citrusy flavors. Balances towards sweet end but hop bitterness is present. Thin body. Very sessionable. A worthy refrigerator beer for the summer. zach8270 (4022) - Henrietta, New York, USA - MAY 7, 2010
(bottle - 12 oz) Hazy light gold color with a fluffy white head. Light and mild hop and flowery aroma. Some dry wheat notes as well. Dry and very lightly hoppy at the start. A dry and grainy wheat flavor comes after it with a rather crisp and very light citrus middle. Almost no aftertaste with the exception of a light dry wheat bite. Slightly bitter. yesyouam (1016) - Fairport, New York, USA - MAY 4, 2010
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2011 Magic Hat Encore is a lively, hazy amber ale with a thin, elastic, bobbly head that has excellent retention and lacing. It has a very hoppy aroma with pine and orange that’s almost sweet. It’s medium or medium-light bodied and smooth with a clean, dry finish. It tastes simple, fresh and bitter with lots of hop flavor. There are notes of fresh pine and citrus... maybe tangerine. The biscuity malt provides outstanding balance. It flirts with sweetness. This is a simple and tasty IPA. Great job, Magic Hat!
I can’t believe this is the same beer that was offered as an Odd Notion last year. I rated it a 2.2 ten months ago. Here’s that review:
Magic Hat Odd Notion Spring ’10 is a lightly hazy, pale golden ale with a thin white head that dissipates quickly and leaves pretty nice lacing on the glass. It has a funky vegetable aroma with notes of pretzels and black pepper. It has a medium-light body with a gritty feel to it and a very gritty finish. There’s a little sour twang to it up front that’s a little off-putting. It’s rescued by the green bitterness of the finish. There’s a doughy note to it. It’s not very pulled together, but tolerable. If I made this at home I’d be a little disappointed, but I’d drink it. rocbyter (2123) - Waterbury, Connecticut, USA - MAY 3, 2010
Wheat aroma but not over powering there is just as much malt to go with it. Hazy golden color with a large white head. Sour bitterness in the beginning that fades in the finish. Beerdedone (3401) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 1, 2010
Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a short white head. Aroma was wheatyand earthy with light citrus and lemon. Flavor was sweet malts, wheat, mild citrus, lemon and had a touch of caramel with a crisp semi dry finish.
