Aroma: Bready malt aromas, with hints of earth yeast.
Appearance: Dark brown with rich tan head.
Taste: Light sweetness with hints of sourness at the edges.
Palate: Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation, long malty finish.
Overall: A bit too sweet for me, but it’s still a drinkable beer. I’m not blown away, but I’m not disappointed, either. wlajwl (7005) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - SEP 1, 2013
Aroma is spices, bananas and dark fruit, somewhat reminiscent of a low ABV Belgian Dark Ale. The flavor is spices, dark/grainy malts, a hint of rye, dark fruit, slick texture and a mildly tart/smooth finish. EtTuCthulhu (1391) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - SEP 1, 2013
(Let me first of all say that the aroma, appearance, palate, and body don’t match the conventional standards of a saison; in face, BJCP rules would say everything about this beer is inappropriate for the style, but I disregarded style conventions in order to give this beer the score it deserved because it is good.)
When poured, this beer’s aroma of caramel and roasted malts fill your nose immediately, and the cloudy reddish brown color with a large off-white head pleases the eye. The taste has a slight fruit sweetness at the front end (this is more noticeable as the beer warms up), but that immediately switches into the mild umami and touch sour flavors of the strong malts. Furthermore, the palate combines a medium body, slick texture, malty finish, and a soft carbonation that continue to entrance the mouth with this somewhat complex and completely untraditional saison. Dark burnt brown to black.
nose is roast with a hint of dark chocolate
fairly thin mouthfeel, burnt oak, rustic and bitter at the finish. Not like a saison more like a darkened amber ale but it’s pretty good

Mildly smells like old blast furnace slag. Nice black pour, attractive. Forst taste is piercing bitter astringent thing. Good sizzle but each slug is fun stuff followed by a stab in the middle back of yer tongue. Tastes like much more than the 4.5% listed here, I’d say abot 6% Yes, sharp beer thing hangs thru for a medium while on the end. Surpirizingly good sizzle almost makes this high personality saison enjoyable. Quite unique. Perhaps a saison crossed with a black IPA? Fratto (2845) - Arlington, Texas, USA - AUG 29, 2013
Bottle from Kroger. Dark pour with a tan head? Aroma is sweet chocolate, dark fruit, and vanilla. Taste is burned fruit and weird spices. Goofy coffee finish? Well, then. Patrickctenchi (6689) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - AUG 29, 2013
