Draft at the Dillinger in Boulder City. Dark clear brown color, fluffy brown head. Aroma of cocoa powder. Taste is similar. How is this a saison?

A clear brown saison with a thin brown head. In aroma, a grassy and fruity malt with grassy hops, light coffee and herbaceous notes. In mouth, a herbaceous malt with grassy hops, coriander, chocolate, interesting. Bottle at Brooklyn Pour 2013.

12 ounce bottle from the Night of the Dead mixed pack. Pours a clear dark red-brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of doughy malts, nuts, a bit of caramel. The taste is chocolate, nuts, spice, mild tart fruits. Thin-medium bodied, high carbonation.

"Earthy and herbal...hard to pick out what’s going on in here. Dark brown pour, assertive aroma. Not as much of the traditional saison qualities as expected, but a fairly assertive flavor for a 4% brew. Sessionable and unique, but just above average."

Bottle at Paul’s for feetsballing. Pours a clear ruby tinged brown with a thin white head. Smells of fruit and plums, a bit of oxidization, bready. Just on the thin side of medium-bodied, some tart malt, more weird plum. Tart and strange. Oxidized and boring.

shrubber85 (11408) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - OCT 8, 2013
Bottle. Orange and caramel malt aroma. Dark brown with moderate tan head. Lightly sweet caramel malt and dusty hay flavor. Mildly bitter herbal finish. Okay - a bit boring.

BVery (10510) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - OCT 7, 2013
Bottle. Very dark pour with a small beige head. Roasted malt and a bit of sweet fruit on the nose. Watery palate, no depth to the taste. A miss.

phaleslu (10264) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 4, 2013
12 oz. bottle from a friend’s fridge during their party. A 4.4% saison sounded like it would hit the spot. This was something different. Pours a dark but clear brown with a finger of beige head. The aroma is a sort of muddled earthy, toasty, fruity and sweet notes. The flavor has burnt toast, dried leaves, nuts, and peanut brittle. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a dry, very toasty mouthfeel. Nothing in common with any other saison I’ve had, so based on my expectations, this was a letdown. But standing alone, it’s not bad.

12oz bottle, from my local Kroger. Pours a dark clear brown color. Thin khaki head. Few bits of lace. Some chocolate, dark fruit, spice in the nose. Cola, toasty malt, some brown sugar and dark spices. Lighter to medium body. Smooth, kind of soft / crisp carbonation. Somewhat dry finish. Moderate bitter, lightly spicy. Hint of honey. A decent dark saison, better than expected.
