This is a strange IPA. It has some dryness but the rye is definitely front and present. It ends up feeling quite heavy. Okay. Prefer the Pistil.

Amazing spicy hop aroma and brilliant color, but there is some weird finish after the rye notes fade from the palate.

3.2
CharmCityCrab (244) - Maryland, USA - FEB 9, 2013
As one might imagine, the combination of bitter hops, rye, and a relatively generous amount of alcohol for a session beer (though not for an IPA) renders this a bit astringent. However, its a rye IPA. You expected sweet? Not overpowering, you can handle it. Relatively smooth for rypa style. Not great, but might be the best of the three "irregulars" that come with the #9 beer in the 2013 mix pack. Certainly not bad.

12 oz bottle from the Spring Fever sampler case. I think the low ratings are accurate here as a few things are missing here, most notably a real rye taste or the dryness you would have with rye. Magic Hat should have done better.

4.1
maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - FEB 5, 2013
Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a moderate off-white head. Nose is a little hoppy with a lot of rye in it. Taste is slightly bitter, but overrun with the rye grains. Smooth finish and appealing taste.

3.2
BrewBoxer (2636) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 4, 2013
Bottle. Deep brown cloudy color. Rye, hops and grassy pine. Not as thick and and bold as I'd expect for the abv. One of the better iPa s from magic hat that I've had ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2.8
Studentofbrrs (98) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 3, 2013
had a powerful hoppy aroma with hint of spice. was very fruity in taste with a small bitter hop finish, easy to drink, not the best on the nose. pours a cloudy orange

SoberDave (182) - Escondido, California, USA - FEB 3, 2013
Nice sweet aroma. Pours a nice orange colour. Great rye flavour with a hint of roast cocoa beans.

3.4
Onslow (1495) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - FEB 3, 2013
Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Cloudy orange / brown brew with this off white head. Mild aroma of citrus, floral, rye. Taste is mildly sweet at the very start with a sour / bitter finish. SOme resin, some hints of the rye, a little spice. Lingering bitter aftertaste. Not a standout but a fully competent and enjoyable IPA.

DocLock (10683) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 2, 2013
Bottle from Capone’s. Pours turbid pumpkin pie colored with 1-finger frothy off-white head. Nose is caramel and rye malts, hops, floral and perfumy. Tastes a bit spicy, perfumy, floral, peppery, with a poppy flavor, rye, hops, and a fairly smooth and rich finish.
