12oz bottle. Cap read, "Liquor before beer... are you kidding." Well, actually, tonight, I did think about it. Pour red/amber color, white foam, nice lacing. Mild grain nose, nice wooded hop character. Tastes of earthy, bitter hops. Velvety sweet caramel malts. Smooth, creamy texture. Very well balanced. Spicy tingle in the finish. Medium bodied. A very nice, very well hopped, RYE IPA. (3703)

Location: 12 oz bottle from Giannone, 5/16/13, Drinking this one virtually with jcos!

Aroma: The nose of this one is sweet malts, rye bread, and some light earth/pine hops
Appearance: Pours a dark reddish color with a a beige head that leaves heavy lace on the glass
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet, rye malts, some caramel, mild butter, and fairly light hops
Palate: The body is medium (leaning light), a little sticky, with an okay, but slightly off mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I wasn’t too impressed by this one. It’s pretty run of the mill. The rye actually shines decently enough, but the IPA flavors do not.

jcos (1851) - Maryland, USA - MAY 16, 2013
Location/Date:Bottle on May 16th, 2013 with Ben(virtually) while listening to The Beatles play "Ticket To Ride".

Appearance: Pours a cloudy orange brown.
Aroma: Aroma of rye, some caramel.
Taste: Rye, faint, bitterness, sweet caramel,
Palate:Light medium body, somewhat thin body, lingering aftertaste.

Summary: This beer hit the right notes, but there is some sweetness to it that I’m getting that is a bit too strong.

12 Oz bottle poured into a pint glass, orange brown color and decent lasting head, caramel, citrus, vanilla, nicely hopped. Not as good as Sierra Nevada ruthless rye but pretty darn good

P: Hazed brown orange tinted body with micro bubble tan head. S: Spicy rye, bready malt, dark fruits and toffee. T/M: Roasted caramel, heavy rye, spiced rum, toffee candy, caramel apples, dark fruit and pine resin. Medium full spices body that Coates the palate with pine and fruit. Leaves of film on the top if the throat like sharp cheddar does. O: By far the best Magic Hat beer I have had. This has great robust flavors and a dialed in spice profile to please.

coolpop (1394) - Birmingham, Alabama, USA - APR 27, 2013
Pours a very orangey, slightly hazy medium amber with a medium-sized off-white head that leaves a lot of scuzzy lacing. Aroma is berry-sweet, caramel, some citrus, not terribly hoppy. Flavor is rather sweet, lots of caramel, touch of spice. Something’s slightly off. Muddy, sweet flavor. Slightly thick, sticky mouthfeel. Meh.

NikkTwist (3044) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 26, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2013 Draft at Sugars. Hazy medium amber with a small off-white head. Strong hoppy rye. Bitter earthy grassy notes, though still a bit sweet. Very rye forward. Stronger than most Magic Hat brews but still feels like a better IPA watered down.
