COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically pale aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both black and pale? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

On tap at Kick. It pours a beautiful light tan, finger-thick head over a more or less black body. Nice lacings. The aroma is quite roasted, with chocolate, resins, clementine and coffee. Its rather bitter in the mouth, dry and full-bodied, with a pleasant level of carbonation. Dark chocolate, cold coffee and a nice hoppy impact, although not as evident as in the aroma. Lasting finish. A tasteful and pleasant beer, I could easily finish a few of these. 121116

(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 10 Sep 2012) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with liquorice, burnt malt, grapefruit and resin. Roasted, malty taste with notes of liquorice, dark rye bread, pine needles, grapefruit and a slightly minty finish with a solid, piney bitterness. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Very nice and tasty.

On tap at CPK, London. It pours black as night with a small beige head. Aroma of hops and roasted malt. Grapefruit and wood. Taste is bitter with roasty woody notes and hoppy bitterness. Grapefruit and citrus zest.mouthfeel is medium with lively carbonation. Overall, delicious. This is what a BIPA should be about.

[email protected] Tap, London. Deep ambery brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts along with some slight toffeeish and hoppy notes. Flavour is rather similar with the fruityness being more evident. A bit more like a hopped stout or porter than a black IPA, but still a good good beer nonetheless.

Palme (4337) - Bergen, NORWAY - AUG 20, 2012
On tap @ CASK Pub & Kitchen, London. This is a deep dark brown one with a lacing light ashy head. It really has lots of coffee beans on the aroma. Chocolate and cocoa also, but the coffee beans is dominating. Really good flavors here! Light roasted with chocolate, bitter chocolate and some cold coffee. Feels well balanced and its quite easy and clean. Average carbonation, full-bodied. Tasty! 22.07.2012

Keg at the Southampton arms, London nw5. The bottom line: this is the best English black IPA Ive tasted to date. Aroma infuses malty roastiness to a veritable bouquet of tropical hops. The taste doesnt quite live up to that promise but is delicious, dont get me wrong. Plenty of tasty darkly sweet malt and alcohol warmth to offset the hop punch. A go to beer for me, definitely.
