COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically pale aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both black and pale? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

33 cl bottle. BBE 08/2013.
Pours pitch black color with a huge, frothy off-white head. Aroma of citric hops, roasted malts, some goose berry bush and grape fruits. Flavor of roasted malts, citrus fruits, hops, some salty licorice, mild goose berries, some biscuits and grape fruit. Bitter palate, strong carbonation. Very good.

My Bottom Line:
This super grassy Black IPA shares a few grapes and citrus fruit within coniferous resins.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A mushroom of foam sprouts from the blackness, leaving plenty of lacing on the edges of the glass.
-The grassy hop component is prevalent from nose to aftertaste.
-This is not an easy drinking example; its intense, and perhaps brash too.
-The resinous hop presence is sometimes redolent of longly steeped leaves.
-The mouthfeel is a bit bulky.
-This is packed with flavour, no doubt. It would surely be a hit in the USA.

On tap at The Evening Star, Brighton.

Keg @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Extremely dark but not black with a very thin head. Its instantly recognisable as a Black IPA with plenty of tropical fruits in its rather fizzed up texture. Its aroma is its most complex part combining fruity hops and roasted malt.

Bottled 05/05/12. A black beer with a thin beige coloured head. Good grapefruit hoppiness in the nose with more roast than other BIPAs. Similar in the mouth. Very bitter and hoppy but also pretty roasty. Pretty dry. Nice no doubt but not your typical BIPA.

26/IX/14 - on tap @ Borefts 2014 (Bodegraven) - BB: n/a (2014-1093) Thanks to Benzai, 77ships, fonefan and cgarvieuk for sharing todays beers!

Clear purple bron beer, creamy beige head, irregular, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: citrus, grassy hops, little roasted, fruity. MF: ok carbon, full body. Taste: bitter hops, some citrus, caramel, little sweet, malty. Aftertaste: sweet notes, caramel, slightly roasted, bitter hops, dry, grassy, citrus, some exotic fruits.

Sampled draft @ Borefts 2014. Thank you! Dark brown black with no head. Lots of mocha, cacao in the nose. Taste is cold coffee, syrup, brown sugar, lightly bitter, touch grass. Nice but not very hoppy for the style.

Bottle from MyBrewerytap.com. Pours pitch black with a big frothy tanned head. Aroma is heavy malty, light roasted and meaty, good hoppy aromas as well, piney and spruce, lovely. Taste is light sweet chocolate and caramel, smooth and filling mouthfeel, hops mix in to make a good balanced brew, with some good citrus and piney notes.Finishes off with a lingering sweet liquorice and bitter pine bite. Good shit.

STUNNING, hop-smothered aroma; strawberry chew and guava with a waft of peated malt, smoked mackerel with black peppercorns, and patachouli incense rearing up in the background. About as perfect a marrage of hops and malts as I can imagine. Taste: yes. Breakfast mostly- juice, smoked mackerel, slices of fresh papaya, big slug of Laphroaig. Im not usually up for breakfast but Id imagine thats what people have. Body: thick, slimy malt. Good as pitch with a firm, speckling tan head. One of the few BIPAs Ive had that genuinely fuses the citrus and smoke without either detracting from the other. Discordant, harmonious, whatever. Delicious beer.
