COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

AshtonMcCobb (6604) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 8, 2012
33cl bottle. Pours opaque black with a red hue and a nicely proportioned head. The nose has pine, grapefruit pith and just enough coffee. The taste has a burnt coffee note with a pithy finish. Medium to full bodied, big texture, relatively clean. Overall, a good andn interesting beer.

Beer5000 (6483) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JAN 29, 2013
On tap @ Kickl. Close to black body with a medium sized beige head. Nice citric fruity hop aroma with hint of chocolate. Flavor is sweet malty, light roasted, citric fruit, rather bitter and fine balance. Medium body, bitter and sweet aftertaste, quite smooth. A pleasant black IPA.

mansquito (6435) - Nueva York, New York, USA - MAR 16, 2014
Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is citrus, spice, chocolate, and fresh coffee. Taste is quite fruity with a moderate amount of hop bitterness. The backbone of the roasty malts blends in well with the IPA character. A well-executed example of the style.

3.5
Pyrmir (6094) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - OCT 5, 2013
On tap. Clear deep ruby brown with off white head. Aroma sweet and pleasant, caramel, candy, perfume. Taste is a little less sweet, some rougher roasted notes, liquorice, rye, with a bitter/astringent finish.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2014 25.05.2013, tap @ HaandFestival:
Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is wet leafs, hops, fresh cut lawn, citrus peel, rubber, burnt caramel, pine needles. Taste is slightly sweet, grass, sugar, rubber, burnt caramel, pine needles, wet leafs. Longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Not a favourite.

33cl, new exclusive English brew Anno 2012, from The Bottle Shop Canterbury, complex bitter brew, malty/roasted and slightly bitter/fruity, not too heavy, very balanced, clear, good head, very good brew, ’The UK craft beer scene is slowly changing... Keep them coming!’

ClubGonzo (5670) - Bergen, NORWAY - AUG 8, 2013
On tap @ Haand Festival 2013. Pours a deep brown, near-black body with a small off-white head. Aroma is grass, resinous herbs, hints of nuts, earthy leaves and green mints. Taste is licorice, deep malts, herbs, resin, hints of grains and almond essence. Medium body and carbonation. A bit strange and grassy.

330ml bottle from Nina’s Mini Market, Edinburgh - strong fruity hop aroma, black ale, decidedly bitter taste with a sour aftertaste, not very nice

minutemat (5478) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - FEB 17, 2014
Keg @ Port Street Beer House, Manchester. Pours black with intense roasted malts, tongue-numbing liquorice and a little too much vegetal notes for me. Couldn’t get much of the tropical fruits unfortunately but still this is an evil tasting beer with lots going on, like a stormy black cloud.

3.8
visionthing (5363) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 30, 2013
Bottle at Port Street Beer House, Manchester. Pours very dark brown with an off-white to beige head. Hoppy and fruity aroma with dark berries, tropical fruits, malt and hints of licorice. A bit sweet, with a malty and berry like flavour and nice and bitter finish. Nice and bitter aftertaste with citrus. Delicious BIPA! (2013-01-26)
