COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

Perhaps the first keg beer I’ve had that has entirely floored me. What a splendid beer--both rich and roasty with undeniable fruity flavours. If only this were on cask, if only.

Tap/growler tall boys Leeds. Very dark colour. Superb citrus fruit aroma. Taste is bitter, hoppy and roasted. One of my favourite beers ever. Exceptional. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Luvians, St Andrews. A black beer with a fair, light tan head. Aroma is lovely with passion fruit and grapefruit hop characters, presumably Nelson Sauvin. Juicy passion fruit and pineapple hop flavours give way to coffee, roasty malt, burnt toast and chocolate. The flavours are intense but this is a seriously drinkable beer. I would love to try this on cask. Brilliant stuff!

330ml bottle. Opaque black with superb off-white to beige frothy lacing and lasting head. Wonderful typical (American) IPA hoppy aroma with a sweet dark malt undertone, herbes. Soft beginning, a taste like a walk in the forrest, blueberry, resin, coniferes, a dry mouthfeel throughout, decent sweetness, decent sourness - what a combination! This is awesome, full of flavour but oh so drinkable. Superb!

From bottle. Pours as good as black with bubbly tan head. Wowee the smell is tidy, lots of grapefruit (Nelson?) and mango, some resinous aroma also. Similar taste, little malt on the finish. Well bittered. The hops really dominate. It’s..........Delicious!

Keg at the Southampton arms, London nw5. The bottom line: this is the best English black IPA I’ve tasted to date. Aroma infuses malty roastiness to a veritable bouquet of tropical hops. The taste doesn’t quite live up to that promise but is delicious, don’t get me wrong. Plenty of tasty darkly sweet malt and alcohol warmth to offset the hop punch. A go to beer for me, definitely.

Really deep dark brown - basically black, with a huge off-white head. Aroma of skunky, floral, orange-citrus hops and nutty, roasty malt. Flavour is light sweet and meium bitter with a long finish. Texture is oily with light carbonation. An excellent beer.
