COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

Bottle at home. Pours black with thin tan head, nice lacing. Nice aromas of of coffee, mango, exotic fruit. Lovely flavours of coffee, juicy mango, dairy milk or cream as well, real passionfruit. Lovely smooth mouth-feel. Another Magic Rock winner.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2012 Bottle from ’Jacks’ Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon 07.02.12 consumed at home 09.02.12 Pours black with off white head. Good aroma, quite meaty and up front though not just with hops, some coffee, oxtail soup and pine. Taste is quite full on with good chocolate base that is loaded with hops, piney and also grapefruit but as good as the hops are, there is a lot of other stuff here, the maltiness comes to the fore and there is coffee also. Great beer. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov17 4.1 I had this again in bottle at MyBreweryTap, North Street, Brighton,Saturday 5th May 2012 The beer was faultless, the bar however really needs to sort out some of the niggles, it just felt a bit rushed and cheap. Great beer, I cannot really add to my previous review suffice to say that it is equally good in bottle as it is on tap (I had it on tap up in Leeds). A very fine example of a Black IPA. Bottle from mybrewerytap.com. Pours pitch black with no head. Smells a lot of pineapple and dark malts. Chewy and tasty. I like magic rock a lot.

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Black pour with a fading tan head. Enticing nose of resinous hop, citrus, roasted malt, brown sugar, and dark choc. Full bodied smooth and slightly oily mouthfeel. The flavour similarly displayed a winning combo of citrus hop bitterness and roasted notes. Maybe a hint of smoke lurking alongside more choc. Loads to admire here. A belter of a Black IPA.

Bottle, mybrewerytap.com. The beautiful ripe mango aroma is utterly at odds with this beer’s black appearance, but it really works. Against a background of smoky roasted malt the opposing flavours combine to produce a full bodied hop lovers dream, with plenty for the stout fans too. Lovely oily hop aroma comes in late on and there’s a long, rich bitter finish.

Opens with a heavy fruity aroma, pours almost jet black with a large off-white / purple head, which reduces soon after but retains a foam. Lots of fruity & malty hops in the taste, more sweet but some bitterness coming through at the finish. Quite soft carbonation with a slick palate. Nice Black IPA

The first black IPA ive had and it is excellent. far more hop punch than a lot of regular IPAs out there and with that colour, you’re just njot expecting it. the maltiness offsets brilliantly against the tropical hit of the hops. great beer.

This is up there. Really is quite splendid. Black and pale, like my arms. You should see what I’ve got planned next. Love Magic Rock.
