On tap at the brewery. Opaque black coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head. Aroma is rich chocolate cake, black forest gateau. Some rum and wood, dark choc. Flavour is rich dark choc, bitter chocolate cake, tart berry, hint of alcohol, tangy earthy cocoa. Very rich and flavourful. Palate is medium bodied, semi drying finish. Lingering earthy rum and raisin. BeerFunGuy (875) - California, USA - NOV 30, 2013
This rich black beer has an amazing flavor and aroma. It smells like coffee and tastes like raisins. Amazing.

A great stout. Pours a nice black with a brown head. Smells of chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. Chocolate upfront, with some raisins in the middle. Some more chocolate in the finish, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Had on tap at the brewery during the BRU/SFO Project.

Tap. Pours opaque black with a large dark brown head and decent lacing. Very nice aroma of coffee, tobacco, chocolate, Kahlua. Flavor is tobacco forward, some dark chocolate, medium sweet, tobacco finish, light bitterness. Flavor doesn’t quite live up to the aroma, unfortunately. Light to medium body, a bit silky in the mouth.

On tap at the brewery. It pours dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has licorice, molasses, raisins and roasted malt. Dense, complex aroma. The flavor has more raisins and molasses with a roasted finish. Light body, but big flavor. Unique.

Black liquid with nice mocha head. Aroma is very chocolaty. Some roasted nice alts in there. Milk and dark chocolate. Smells good! Taste is roasted and slightly sour. I don’t get the chocolate as much as in the aroma. Quite nice. high_on_hops (809) - Burlingame, California, USA - NOV 10, 2012
On tap. Pours a deep brown with a tab head and lacing. It has a sweet aroma with a bit of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. The flavor is toast and coffee up front with a sweet and chocolate finish and smooth mouthfeel.

A - Served a dark black color with a thin layer of frothy chocolate head. Head fades quickly leaving behind some good lace.
S - Aroma is full of chocolate with some roasted aroma and a bit of burnt malt and cocoa nibs.
T - Starts off with some strong roasted bittersweet chocolate. Through the middle a touch of hops comes through with a touch of sweetness and a bit of burnt chocolate and espresso. The finish is a mix of roasted malts with some burnt flavors and more chocolate.
M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and slightly thick mouthfeel.
D - Very drinkable. Really strong chocolate style that dominates the flavor and nose. Really nice take on the style. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - DEC 7, 2010
Black with a creamy tan head. Roasty slightly smokey sweet chocolate aroma and taste. brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - DEC 1, 2010
A: The pour is a very dark brown color, nearly black, with a sturdy mocha colored head.
S: The nose is primarily chocolate with a fair amount of roasted malts, some espresso, some more roasted malt (possibly burnt) and alcohol. Which is sort of strange for a beer that’s only 5.3%.
T: The flavors are nowhere near as intense as I would have anticipated or hoped. Moderate chocolate and cocoa flavor with some slightly sweet bread pudding sort of flavor as well. Mild roasted malts are present as well.
M: The body is medium with a low to medium carbonation.
D: Like many of the other beers at Magnolia, this was a let down. Just sort of bland and what was there wasn’t all that impressive.
