This smashing Dunkel serves up nutty caramel, earthy hops and orangey angles in a most adorable mouthfeel.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam settles atop the orangey brown.
-Malt flavors are beautifully expressed without falling into heavy residual sugars.
-Hops are harmonious with the grain bill.
-This is one of those Dunkels which, when properly served, can give luster to this oft-forgotten style.

The beer pours a deep ruby color with a small well retained head that leaves some lace on the glass.
The aroma is very rich with chocolate and malty character, both lightly sweet and very clean.
The flavor is fruity with some cherry and chocolate out front some earthiness and a mild roastiness are in the background and this has a really enjoyable noble hop expression bringing a good balanced bitterness. The beer is not really very sweet as many of the dunkels we get in the US tend to be.
I quite like this.
Draft at the brewpub. Another Bamberg beer labeled as a dunkel that doesn’t meet my paradigm, this again being more of an amber. Caramel malt with a tart finish. Good and enjoyable. Sure wish we could’ve eaten here. (#4398, 12/3/2011)
