Not at all what I was expecting...Dark, with chocolate and roast predominating, earthy, more like a porter really, not very lager like at all. It is a rustic and satiating beer and definitely flaovorful, but not like the bready, munich malt dominated Dunkels found elsewhere in Bavaria and Franconia. Nice stuff but not so much my cup of tea...

A touch of dark malt in the aroma from a ruby body so dark it’s almost black. Small tan head that quickly dissipates. a touch of roasted malt ans some sweetness come through followed by some hellertau flavor and bitterness. On the thin side, and definitely nothing special.

Somewhere between a Dunkel and a rauchbier... throw the style guide out and drink a treat awaits you Smells of munich malt, some dusty chocolate powder and a slight hint of earthy smokiness Pours like a porter with a tan head Nice clean lean malt structure with munich like biscuit, bread, bitter sweet chocolate, fleeting spicy hop flavor with some earthy smokiness Surprisingly light in the mouthfeel... finish is dry and complex wth some nutty and spicy notes with some smoke I bet on tap it would be even more fantastic... WOW!

Wonderful aroma of roasted dark malts in this, I really like the smell it has going on. Nice black with a colored head, and a tasty dark malt flavor which is potent but not overpowering. Lots of complexity in this compared to some of the other dunkels I’ve tried, and the flip top bottle is a bonus ;)

Just showed up at the liquor store. Dark reddish brown color with big off-white head. Aroma is a bit skunky. Diappointing. Some malt and spice come out as well. Flavor is malty with spicy hops. Finishes a little sweet. Pretty good beer, probably would be a lot better fresh.

Dark, dark browm color, almost black, but light still goes through. Quickly diminishing taqn/brown head. Flavor is malty and bread-like. Nice bitter sweetness along with a slight roasted flavor. This is very well done.

I love this beer! The flavor is so smooth, with malty and especially smoky and fruity undertones. Very nice light charcoal color and malty aroma. Very drinkable. A very nice beer. I found this in Asheville,NC.

Bottle. Poured with a finger high light brown head. Smells of burnt malt and a slightly of coffee. Very dark beer, with some red hues on the border of the glass. Head dissipated rather quickly. Taste is a little bland, in my opinion, with literally no aftertaste.

I believe this is my first dunkel, so I really do not know what to compare it to. Very German/import aroma hard to describe. Appearance is really cool, dark with a very contrasting white head. Flavor, taste, palate once again difficult to describe, but interesting. Kind of tastes like beef broth. A neat expirience.
