If it comes in a flip top bottle, its got to be calssy, right? Right? Reddish brown, luxoriously thick tan head. Toasty, spicy aroma. Faint pine flavors mix with pepper, water cracker and fresh bread aromas. Well blended together, but nothing really stands out. Well made and smooth. BJ’s Winter Tasting 2005: Deep crimson hue; big-bubbled, but fading head. Creamy-smooth mouthfeel; kind of light. Very toasty and bready malts. Notes of chocolate, toffee, toast and nuts. Balancing bitterness. Mild beer, but nice and pleasant. Gorbalev (3000) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 28, 2006
Bottle shared with Jerc and GregClow. Very dark brown, small beige head. Sweet spicy dark malt aroma with some nutmeg - almost reminds of Anchor our Special Ale a bit - fig, some hops. Interesting stale malt taste, almost porter like. Some spiciness. A little dry smoke in finish. Very dry. OK. riversideAK (6260) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - OCT 4, 2007
Light roasty chocolate aroma, also slightly metallic. Pours super dark brown with a small tan head. Flavor is roasty, slightly sweet malt with a light bitterness in the finish. Clean crisp finish. Light with mild carbonation. hayduke (5189) - Eureka, California, USA - OCT 4, 2007
From a 500 ml flip top bottle poured a dark brown with off-white head and good lacing. Powerful nose of roasted and sweet malts, with a hint of fruit. Mouthfeel lighter than than you would expect, and flavors are complex, with chocolate, fruits, and a hint of smoke. Sweet finish. Decent brew.

Bottle. Mahogony/dark ruby color with a tan head. Smokey, earthy, malt aroma. Flavor is lighter than expected - smoke, malt, caramel, earth - with a bit of acidity and very slight metallic, Lighter than expected body. Dusty, earthy, malt lingers with a bit of acididty. Needs more oomph. frankenstein (64) - Livermore, California, USA - NOV 4, 2007
I believe this is my first dunkel, so I really do not know what to compare it to. Very German/import aroma hard to describe. Appearance is really cool, dark with a very contrasting white head. Flavor, taste, palate once again difficult to describe, but interesting. Kind of tastes like beef broth. A neat expirience. AleDrinker (1089) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - NOV 4, 2007
Pours darkbrown with a thin but lasting light brown head. Flavor has lots of brown sugar, mollasses and roasted malt. Little bitterness. mjg74 (3093) - La Mesa, California, USA - NOV 15, 2007
Bottle from BevMo. Loud pop upon opening. Dark maroon in color. Large brown head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Some roasted coffee as well. Thin mouthfeel. Some burnt coffee bitterness seems to dominate. Not to sweet. Good sessionable dunkel. exadore (92) - Sacramento, California, USA - NOV 20, 2007
Bottle. Poured with a finger high light brown head. Smells of burnt malt and a slightly of coffee. Very dark beer, with some red hues on the border of the glass. Head dissipated rather quickly. Taste is a little bland, in my opinion, with literally no aftertaste.
