Mahr’s Brau Ungespundet Hefetrub It pours with a big, creamy, long-lasting, head; has a golden-bronze color; a wonderfully fresh, perfumy; hop aroma; a remarkably smooth, almost oily, malty, palate; very fresh flavours; and a spritzy finish. It is beautifully balanced, but leans to the dry side. This is a delicious, appetising beer and a true taste of Germany’s fast-vanishing artisanal tradition.

Bottle pours a clear copper with a large off-white head. Aroma of grassy bitter hops, grain, dry bread, caramel, and malt. Taste of sweet caramel malts into dry bitter hops with some yeast and bread on the finish. Simple but very drinkable and enjoyable.

Shared at a get together at ebone1988’s house with Matt and Jennifer on July 08. 5000 mL bottle. The pour is a foggy golden orange with a thinner white head and a couple spots of lace as the beverage vanishes. The aroma is full of malt. There is a sweetness about it and a strong yeast sweetness. There is a light corn and a hint of graininess that doesn’t do it for me. The flavor is much of the same. The malt is strong and the yeast is heavy and sweet. There is a little bitterness to it and yet a sweet graininess on the finish. Not how I like these. The mouth feel is watery and thin with a sharper carbonation with a lingeringly sweet graininess and a yeastiness on the back end. Not my jam here. 5 4 6 3 12

500 ml bottle from Getränke Oase, Munich, bb 18.07.17
Dark golden, slightly hazy body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, off-white head.
Very smooth aroma of grains, bread, flowers, grass, sweet fruits, subtle honey.
Tastes similar, with some more hay and slight herbs.
Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes smooth, grainy, bready, floral, spicy, a bit herbal, with a subtle, lingering honey sweetness.

Very nice. Greatly balanced, with all the typical aromas of the style, but perfectly dosed and clean, leading to a very smooth overall impression. I also like the subtle spiciness towards the finish, making for the last bit of character. Lovely, accomplished stuff, much better than the majority of this style’s examples.

I got this bottle in a trade with joe1510. Thanks Joe! Actually, double thanks as this will be my first tasting of the style! A nice hazy orange gold colour qith a 2 finger head of foam. The smell is all bread malty and fruity...I’m getting some lemon citrus and now, some caramel malt. Nice nose. The taste is delish. Lots of bread with some sweet malt thrown in and earthy and light citrus hop goodness. Man, this is tasting very good to me and I’m having a hard time putting the glass down. The mouthfeel just sneaks over into medium, the carbonation is on the light side, and it finishes with a nice mild blend of bitterness and tartness. Very pleasing aftertaste to boot. Head retention turns out to be good with a fine broken layer that lasted the entire session and the lacing isn’t too shabby either. Bottom line: What a wonderful brew I just finished. It sure makes me want to try some more of the style as this one has everything going for it, including drinkability. Thanks again, Joe!!

Aroma is caramel, earthy hops, slightly fruity, corn, eh. Appearance is amber golden, light tan head, hazy. Taste is earthy hops, sweet corn, grains, metallic, bitter malt, slight caramel, good. Motel is light to medium body, light crisp carbonation, grainy earthy hops aftertaste. Overall, it’s good for the style.

Hazy amber with medium white head. Aroma is citrus, herbs, some toasty Märzen like malt, vanilla, slight mustiness. Taste is balanced sweet and tart. Finish of smooth tartness. Incredibly quaffable. This is good.

0,1l from tap at Salon Piva, Bratislava. dark yellow almost clear color, small white head. smells bread, lightly grainy, light tobacco. quite decent smell overall. light to medium body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes bread, grainy, bit buttery, ripe fruits, tobacco. finishes quite balanced with a very light bitterness and notes of tobacco, ripe fruits and some grains. rather decent but I dont care so much for the ripe fruits. overall decent affair.

Pours with a pronounced, slightly off-white top. Fizzling, indicating good carbonation. Top diminishes quite quickly. Pours golden, going to bronze after a while. Aroma is very strong upfront malts, some hops in the background. Palate is slightly oily, very full, going to a nice sweet taste, which is quickly replaced in to a gentle, dry finish. This is a very fine lager!
