Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is light and airy and semi dry. Softish dark malts, very light roast. A little tangy. Touch of lactose. Trace of orangey fruits. Light semi dry finish. Pretty standard stuff and lacking the usual Maine fairy dust.

Bottle at Sanders place in NYC. Pours dark brown with a strong, tan foam head. Deep, dirty coffee on the nose, good roast. Medium sweet flavor, big and dark roasty malts, bittersweet cocoa. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Moderately sweet finish, robust cocoa, light burnt earthy bitterness, coffee. Great beer. Wonderful balance.

Dark brown pour with an off-white head. Nose is roast, ash, and char. Somewhat chalky, a little bit of cocoa powder, coffee grounds, and a light acidity. Strong roasted malt and ash character to the flavor, too. Coffee grounds, dark chocolate, chalk, and a light bitterness. Minimal sweetness and a definite acidity.
