black with thin cream head, consistent. Brownie and herb nose, balanced with some cake delicacy. Bit of playdoh marriage of stout and hops, otherwise excellent, balanced brownie cake with piney, resinous end, stings tongue. Rich body. Dense and delicious.

Pours a solid black color with a huge tan head that persists forever. Earthy hoppy aroma with a roasty chocolate some dark fruit and a hint of cardboard. The flavor is earthy and citrus hoppy with a fair amount of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick roasty gritty mouthfeel. Nice hoppy porter very tasty.

Bottle (thanks to goodbyeohio for sharing)... Poured black with a thin, khaki head. Some good retention. Aroma of awesomely dank, earthy, pine-like hops. Hop notes similar in the flavor with a good balance of roast and malt sweetness. Bright citrus, cocoa, roast, mild tobacco note too.

500 ml bottle. Pours a dark brownish near black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of lots of strong hop notes, focusing on citrus, pineapple, and mango. Chocolate malt, mild roast aromas as well. Flavor is deliciously hoppy with mild roast and chocolate notes. Lots of tropical fruit and pine hop notes, not overly bitter but firmly bitter with well accompanying dark, roasty, and chocolate malts. Full creamy body, with nice thick texture. This is one of the best examples of a Black IPA I’ve ever had.

Bottle while hanging out with my son late night. Pours deep brown with lovely head and nice lacing. Despite being stuffy ingot a nice nose of cocoa and hops. Tastes of piney hops, grapefruit, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and herbs. Creamy yet bitter mouthfeel. Another winner from Maine.

maekchu (3847) - Hirakata, JAPAN - MAR 29, 2014
Bottle. Thanks to KyotoLefty. Chocolate, pine hop nose, with some cocoa notes. Dark translucent brown. Dark peaty chocolate, heavy tea and more chocolate, some salty tinges, and good final bitterness. Medium body. Not shocking to the palate, but moderate to full flavors all around. Exceptional.

500 ml bottle from BOTW (Rochester), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a creamy mocha head. Aroma: Lovely dank/resinous hops with some nice dark-roasted malt character, lightly smoky, a bit of alcohol. Palate: Medium+ body with fine, somewhat sparse carbonation. Flav.: Lots of dank/resinous hops with a rich dark-roasted malt backdrop, a little grape jelly, faintly smoky, a bit boozy; dry with moderate bitterness and a long, roasty and hoppy finish.

Quite good.
