On a rainy fall day in 2009, my five-year-old daughter Zoe and I were wandering the streets of Bar Harbor and stumbled across the Whale Museum. Zoe loved it. Hopefully we do the same for you. Cheers! Our Happy, Hoppy, Amber-Ale

Big thanks to Slovak for this bottle! Pours a dark reddish brown with a couple fingers of head. Boat loads of hops in the smell, lots of citrus notes, smells awesome. Lots of bitterness up front, followed by some sweetness a nice balanced pale ale.

Pours a deep amber with a two finger eggshell head. Aromas redolent of grapefruit, pine and biscuit. Nice smooth mouthfeel with good malt backbone to offset the hoppy bitterness. Nice dry finish. A great ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, as pictured. This is surprisingly hoppy, though I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised as the bottle indicates that it’s going to be hoppy. Dark with a little bit of sweetness and a bit of hop flavor. Not too bad at all.

Born on 02/26/13. Merci Patrick.

I remember this being the best Amber I have ever had. Great hop presence, nice maltiness. Thanks for sharing.

Bottle from whole foods Devon. Pours yellow with an inch of white foam that leaves lacing. A Bit of hops on the nose. Big floral hop flavor on the tongue. Has a nice amount of bitterness on the finish but does not feel likes hop bomb. A beer that redefines the style.

Nice fresh hoppiness. Not sure how this classifies as an amber, and not an IPA, but whatever. Very grassy, but in a good way.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a huge tan head. Aroma of toast, lots of citrus (grapefruit, pineapple) and some pine. Taste is toasted amber malts, some spicyness, citrus, and pine bitterness.

Bottle from trade with Phatdog1. Been interested in this because of such a high rating within a style that gets less respect than most. First surprise was the medium brown pour, which I was not expecting, and then a beautiful thick resilient and clingy head, followed up with a surprisingly intense VERY fresh hop aroma that puts many IPAs to shame. Flavor is definitely hop forward, which supports my view that the highest rated Ambers and Pales push into IPA territory to garner those ratings. Anyway, it’s a solid hop presence, and really the main attraction, although there are some carmel malt notes in there too. Reminds me of a Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale. Mouthfeel is substantial enough. The head lasts through the entire glass. I understand why it’s rated high; nice to have tried this one. Can’t help but feel it is more IPA than Amber, however.
