The commercial description might be misleading. This is not a typical white beer. It's hardly cloudy and not white but a deep copper. The aroma leans less from yeast and banana, which is but an aromatic hue, to more typical carmel and alcohols. There are also non-dominant apple fruit components. Very carbonated from the bottle with a gorgeous presentation, warming decreases the initial fizz and after five minutes or so becomes much more palatable with the yeast components waking up with delicate bitters as well. This is an interesting and unique brew that I wouldn't go out of the way for, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

a bit bolder than most wheat beers though not overpowering. spicy fruit flavour really lingers on the palate

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2004 bubblegum and fruit aroma - lovely creamy, bready texture - very tasty combination of plums, toffee, vanilla, delicate hallertau herbalness, banana - finishing slightly tart, slightly phenolic and salty. full, complex, tasty, refreshing - what more do you want in a hefeweizen? rer8: ok it's a bit too sweet, crystal malty, and heavy for a hefe

I had this years ago, before I was actually into wheat beers. I remember liking it. A good, rich wheat beer.

my first experience with a wheat style beer was spanish peak's black dog wheat ale. my second experience was maisels weisse. what a difference! this is one terrific brew. set the standard for me, anyway. love it.

A damn fine German wheat. Description says 'unmistakable character of fine cellar yeast' and I'll wholeheartedly agree. The yeast adds so much character to this brew. This was my favorite German beer for the longest time.

Excellent yeast aroma with a symphony of fruity esters. I craved this beer more with every sip. This beer is extremely pleasant on the palate. Ever so slightly sour in the finish, just the way I love it. What a great beer!
