Upon opening this, you are treated to a grape juice with yeast esters bouquet. After it warms up there is more of a plum, fig and candied sugar, also brown sugar, taste and aroma; like a rum soaked fruit cake. The 12% alcohol is not that apparent until it sneaks up on you, so watch out! Despite the fact that this isn’t a Trappist quad, it sure stands up to most of them. 33 cl, bb 01 04 11. Opaque mahogany with a lasting half-inch of creamy foam. Aroma of dark chocolate, prunes, minty espresso, molasses, light smoke. Tastes of molasses, raisin, dark chocolate, plum, soy sauce, orange wood, tobacco cured in brown sugar, and a touch of mint. Medium body is smooth with average carbonation, balanced and dangerously drinkable for 12%. This one seems to have gotten better with over-aging. PissSinker (23) - Perth, WA, AUSTRALIA - SEP 14, 2013
Mother of mercy. Weird cunt bottle. Fuck. This is why I sink piss. Fucking good shit. leghorn99 (254) - roma, ITALY - NOV 15, 2014
Shedding in the Trappist glass foams presented average, beige and soft and durable, leaving thin layer perennial. The body is an opaque dark brown with red and very beautiful reflections.
The roasting aroma is wonderful, delicate, and alcohol does not appear in the aroma, but there are noble hops, floral accents, fruity, citrus and dry. Felt no toasted or roasted in armoma which surprised me. I noticed this a little Belgian yeast. In my humble opinion this beer complete all requirements of a good Quadrupel abbey style.
Surely a striking feature is the aroma that is not very strong in intensity, but it turns out complex, delicate and accompanying tasting until the last sip.
Taste takes the same aroma of course with generous doses of coffee, a beautiful Belgian yeast and floral hops. Alcohol shows its claws warming slightly every sip that clashes a bit the set despite its 12% content.
Its carbonation is high, which was soon confirmed in the first sip. The bitterness appears well and refreshes the set, helping a lot the drinkability of this beer, poi the alcohol content is high. A powerful end.
In its aftertaste feel a bitter light, one torrefado in the background a taste of dried ameixar. Well inserted.
One of the greatest merits of this Quadrupel Trappist style is at its high alcoholic content not to be heavy drinking not being too sweet and not at all cloying not. A work of art brewing.

Molto buona! janubio (910) - SPAIN - JUN 23, 2013
330 ml. bottle. Pours an opaque brown almost black colour, with a head that fades quickly leaving a strong lace. Smells of dried fruits, figs, raisins, chocolate. Spicy and fruity. Sticky sweet palate, not much carbonation (and no needed). Taste of dried fruits, pepper, spices, chocolate. It warms your throat like brandy and leaves you asking for more, even with its 12º. 330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours dark with a good off-white head. Aroma is dark fruits & malts, lightly sweet. Beautifully blended and easy-drinking for a 12%er with swirling hints of caramel and fruitcake. A magnificent quad. willisread (3548) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 11, 2015
On tap at Popeye in Tokyo. Served in a stemmed tulip. No head upon serving. Rusty amber color with strong muscat aroma. Alcohol forward beer with a thin, watery texture on the tongue. Grape flavor really jumped out after coming to room temperature. Awesome, awesome Belgian.
