In a country with beers named after the Devil, or called "Sudden Death", one called "Misfortune" (Malheur, in French) is just another wry jest. The beer itself is no joke. On the contrary, it is an inspired beer. Malheur is made in a new, revivalist, brewery.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a thick, frothy, white head. Interesting aroma and flavor of pilsner malt and noble hops with a bitter finish. This feels like a belgian pilsner but I prefer the bohemian pilseners. The body is light and creamy and the carbonation is moderate.

Bottle, bought @ Magasin, Aarhus. Pours a hazy orange with a big frothy, bubble white head. Aroma is malty with light sweetness and fruity zestiness - some clemtines and oranges. Relatively light mouthfeel, rather high carbonation. Flavour is sweeter than expected, with yeast at the back and lots of sweet orange peel. A touch thin perhaps, but avoids (perhaps intentionally) the fruity tartness of many other blondes.

Golden with a huge, white head and good lace. The aroma has light citrussy notes, mostly tangerine. The mouthfeel is very prickly. The flavour is slightly sweet and has a strong note of orange peel. I would like more body in this one..

330 ml bottle from trade with Papsoe. Pours a cloudy golden color with nice, finger-size fluffy white head. Head lingered throughout the drink. Aroma is sweet, yeasty with some citrus fruit - lemon maybe? Taste sure is Belgian - yeast, citrus, some spice - but not distinct. Kinda weak in the Belgian flavor. Medium-to-thin mouthfeel with some carbonation.

(Rating #1337)

Pale sleightly hazy golden with a bubbling white head. Aroma is citrus flower with a good amount of dusty hobs and minor fruity esters. Flavor is quite sweet but mainly sour citrus fruits. Not that special for a belgian brew

Light clear golden with a small fluffy white head. Soft, sweet aroma... peach, wildflowers, caramel and vanilla, sounds great but it really isn’t that special for some reason. Smooth, light, balanced mouthful... flavours of peach, maybe a touch of tartness, some bready malt and table sugar too. Longish lightly bitter/sweet finish. Ticks all the boxes and is pretty enjoyable to drink.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2011 Bottle. Unclear, golden body, and an off-white head. Spices, pale malt, some sugar and grass in the aroma. Nice, but a bit boring. Grass, pale malt, spicyness and some hops in the flavor, finishing dry and spicy. Medium body. A nice beer, but the Malheur 4-10 are growing a bit boring on me. Rating: 6-4-6-3-13-3.2. 070928

Bottle. It pours a hazy, golden body and a minimal-sized off-white head. Belgo-style fruity aroma with sugar and a hint of cellar. Slightly citrusy flavor, some pale malts and a faint hint of cellar. Medium body, citrusy, malty finish. It drinks easy, but is almost as boring as an industrial pilsner. 110107

Slight hazy honey gold hue, with a frothy white head, yeasty, fruity nose of faint citrusy and ripe apples, with a mild honeyed pale malt note, with a shy flowery hop in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, fruity character of grapefruit and lemon, with a subtle vanilla spiciness, some honeyed palt malt accents, with a note of wet hay, leading towards a flowery hop dryness finish.
