COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a country with beers named after the Devil, or called "Sudden Death", one called "Misfortune" (Malheur, in French) is just another wry jest. The beer itself is no joke. On the contrary, it is an inspired beer. Malheur is made in a new, revivalist, brewery.

Embrouille (2854) - SWITZERLAND - JUL 20, 2010
Bottled 25cl. It pours a yellow beer with a tall, nicely remaining lacing white head. Very interesting and inviting nose with hints of mint, melissa, turkish delight, citrus, faint sweat, melon and rose petals. Reminiscence of a light tripel throughout. Yeast accented. Flawless and deeply pleasant. A great beer which is underrated in my opinion.

250ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours hazy gold with good white head. It’s a basic blonde, soft, doughy and lightly sweet but it’s a blonde done well. Gotta love a good Malheur.

15-06-2017; bottle; at home. The looks of the beer are quite nice. The color of the beer is a nice golden yellow. The beer has a nice silky look, because of the nice cloudiness. On top of the beer a nice layer of soft white foam is formed. Foam retention is quite good. The smell of the beer is nice. It is a nice Belgian Ale smell. It is spicy, robust and bold. I smell some nice malty aromas at first, giving a nice sweetness. Besides this, there is a lovely fruity aroma. I smell some orange, some zest and touches of koriander and other spices. There is also a floral touch. The floral and coriander touches seem hop derived. I like those hoppy touches. Pairs lovely with the malts. The taste of the beer is also nice. I taste some nice malty base tones, with some fruity flavours. I also taste nice bitter hops, with some zesty citrus and floral flavours, with a touch of spiciness. All is very well balanced. I like it. The palate of the beer is nice. Medium body, smooth and a nice medium carbonation. The finish of the beer has a nice fruitiness, together with some bitter hops and a spicy touch. All in all, a lovely beer. Traditionally Belgium, but with more power and kick. It isn’t stuck in tradition, but leaves room for development. I love it. Great work.

I had never heard of the beer or the brewer, but I must give my compliments. This is a good beer.

Belgik (72) - Sterrebeek, BELGIUM - JAN 7, 2002
Loose off-white foam over copper colored yeast-cloudy brew (the 'procedure' calls for swirling the bottle dregs into the glass!) Rather bland aroma at first, at most a yeasty white-beer type nose, evolving into a nice medium-intense nose, with well-balanced yeast-hop-malt aromas. Nice foam in the mouth, medium-bodied and, again, nice balancing act between the -not too high! ABV- hops and malty/yeasty tastes. The magic is in the balanced, if short, aftertaste. Ale needs not be 'strong' to be perfectly enjoyable, and this beer has quite some finesse!

This beer has quite a bit of bang for its alcohol content. There is some honey and malty spiciness, but it all comes together with a fabulous crisp belgian yeastiness. Some oxidized hop flavors in the background, but understandable due to expiry date almost 2 years past. Very enjoyable.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2006 Bottle Pale, blond body. White fizzy head, mostly diminishing. No lace. Very complex aroma of vanilla, hops, liquor, flowers, ... Moderately bitter, lightly sweet initial flavour. Moderately bitter finish. Quite complex beer.

Cloudy gold with a nice white head. Light apple aroma. At 6% and a good flavor this is highly drinkable. This 25cl bottle was gone in a matter of minutes. I could put many of these away. Not terribly complex but still, this is a really nice little brew.
