De Landtsheer’s take on the ’tripel hop’ trend, since 2012. Off-white, sticky head over a yellowish blonde beer with greenish hue. Aroma of green apple, orange, hay, toasted bread, sweat but little ’real’ hoppiness. Citrussy onset, fruity, pale malts, sweetish, some grapefruit accents in the finish but by no means the strong hop bitterness I had expected based on the name. Totally misnamed and even a bit disappointing considering the quality of the other Malheurs.

Sample @ Brugge Bierfest ’13, triple hop? I mean come one even Duvel Triple Hop did better, and that’s saying a lot. About the only thing saving this beer from sinking is the Malheur typical profile.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ Brugs Bier Festival 2013. Hazy mouldy fruit orange appearance with a white head. Smell is overripe, tad rotting fruits, hay, sweet, summer fruits, lightly herbal, light touch of floral hops. Taste is lightly fermenting fruits, overripe peaches, barnyard, candy sugar, thick yeast, lightly floral bitter (only very lightly in the back), sweet spices, summer fruits,… Quite a hazy body… Meh, dull beer, just ignore the tripel tripel hop thing. No idea what BE breweries mean when they call this stuff hoppy. Well maybe there is more hops in here but I cannot really taste them so not sure about the point.

Almost no head, clear golden beer. Rainwater, citrus, bit of alcohol - very demure nose. Alcohol, faintly toasted malts and toasted bread. Utter absence of hops. Sweet, slick, alcoholwarming, well-carbonated. WHERE THE BL**DIN H*LL ARE THOSE 3² HOPS??? For cryin’ out loud, half beergeeky Belgium has been drinking Westcoast IPA’s for the last five year, and than you call this tripel tripel hop!!!

18/11/12 - 75cl bottle @ Horecaexpo (Gent) - BB: n/a (2012-1213) Thanks to SecretSanta for the beer!

Clear orange beer, small off-white aery head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, some syrup, mango, mandarins, bit of citric hops. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: citrus, pretty bitter touch, almost chemical, mandarins, lemony, grapefruit. Aftertaste: lemon peel, citrus, grapefruit, alcohol is noticeable, though not too much, by spicy, orange peel, some pineapple.
