Bottle from trade with DSG, thanks Barak. Black with beige froth. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Roasted flavour, dark choc, slightly jammy with a little fruity sweetness. Finishes dry and bitter.

Bottle at home. Pours opaque black with a medium, frothy tan head, long retention. Aroma is moderate roast and chocolate malt with chalky notes and earthy hops. Flavor is moderate roast and chocolate malt, chalk notes, earthy and woody hops and medium bitterness with a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.

hauxe (712) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - APR 19, 2017
Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma promises lots of roasted malts, dark chocolate. Rich roasted flavors, chocolate, faint port wine in aroma. Dry. Taste is light bitter chocolate, ash. Lighter than average for the style. Good stuff.

Scipio (1045) - Palatine, Illinois, USA - MAR 27, 2017
Pours black with a full tan head that settles slowly. The aroma has a fairly heavy amount of chocolate, vanilla, and roasted malt, with lesser amounts licorice and caramel. The taste is very dry and has some subtle bitterness. This is more roasted, with good complimentary chocolate and licorice. I get light coffee, smoke, and molasses as well. Short aftertaste of licorice and chocolate. Its medium in body, with a chewy texture, and average in carbonation, though heavier for this style. Altogether this isn’t a bad offering. It kind of reminds me of a lite version of the Lion Stout.

Many thanks to zvsn!
Bottle. Black body, small brown head. Aroma to raisins, dates, chocolate and unfortunately metal. Taste is roasty bitter; dark chocolate, hints of coffee, dark fruits and metal. Medium body and carbonation.
Not a wonder, but OK.

HoopsandHops (56) - ISRAEL - FEB 15, 2017
330ml bottle in Jerusalem, bb 11.04.2017. Pours dark brown out of the bottle, which looks black in the glass, with a finger+ of creamy beige head. (4) There’s a layer of gummy yeast at the base of the bottle, which I swirled and added to the glass. Aroma is quite rich, sweet roasted barley, wood, toasted coconut, a little chocolate and coffee, a little plastic? (7) Flavor is balanced: lite chocolate sweetness pretty much from start to finish dominates, slight tartness to go along -- not complex at all, not quite roasty enough, not a slow sipper of a stout. (6) Body is disappointingly on the light side, with medium carbonation. (2) Overall barely decent, too tame.. (13)

Bottle. Very dark dense oily pour with a smaller brown head. Dark chocolate, roast, hint of alcohol sweetness. Pretty good.

joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - NOV 26, 2016
Bottle from Whole Foods in Berkeley. It pours black with a dark brown, fizzy head. The aroma is hard roasted and acidic with hints of dark fruit. The flavor has a little acid and lots of dirty roasted malt. Somewhat cola-like. Some burnt sugar and dark fruit in the finish. Way too much black malt for my tastes. The mouth feel borders on acrid. High, fizzy carbonation and a light to medium body. Meh.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a brown head. Chocolate and roast aroma. Roast and chocolate flavor with light nuttiness. Medium bodied. Roast and chocolate linger.
