3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Four Firkins in St Louis Park, MN. Pours a semi-clear copper brown colored brew with a think and rocky off-white head that has some excellent retention and some spotty lacing. Aroma of floral and perfume hops, toasted caramel malt, a hint of toffee and light toasted biscuit. Taste is medium to full bodied, plenty of noble dry hop presence, mildly bitter with flavors of dry Munich malts, dry leafy hops, and a hint of toasted toffee. Finish has a dry and spicy bitter aftertastet. Plenty of Munich malt presence with a dry biscuit aftertaste. A touch spicier than the traditional Dusseldorf-style alts but with an American craft beer drinker’s preferred palate in mind.
Dark Amber color with a moderate amount of carbonation, good lacing head retention. Nose consists of caramel, spices, orange peels and roasted malts. Flavor-wise, you have caramael, citrus, spices, hops and roasted malts; The aftertaste is a fairly bitter hop finish. Body is heavy and the carbonation is moderate. Good beer overall TheHOFF43 (2052) - Robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA - MAY 5, 2013
Pours brown. Aroma is lots of grain, grassy hops and some caramel-y malts. Its OK. bookman10 (1134) - Osseo, Minnesota, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Pours a brownish-red with mid-sized head. Hop and grain aroma--some earthy, almost metallic odors as well. Flavor is dominated by a grainy maltiness, with a pretty bitter finish. Not a particularly smooth or tasty beer. ryanfolty (2579) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - JAN 5, 2013
January 5, 2013 on tap at burger jones. Light brown pour with some head and lacing. Aroma and taste of caramel, grain, and earthy hops. Medium body and light carbonation. ccex (1327) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 27, 2012
12 oz bottle pours a clear copper color with moderate off-white head and some lacing. Nose has spice and grains. Aroma has caramel, lemon, vegetables, and some roasted nuts. Body is light to medium with average carbonation. Taste is more sour than bitter with a medium finish. Still, an interesting beer from a new brewery from where I was raised (where most folks drink boring beers). I’m glad I picked up 6 of these on my Christmas vacation to MN.

Bottle pour. 1 month past best by date, so that might effect this. Like this better than Mankato Original. Slightly metallic taste. JK (6202) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - DEC 1, 2012
Bottle. Light copper colorj, some a short lived white head. Mild aroma with grain. More of this in the flavor, grain & malt, with a quick, dry finish. vikingguy (1106) - Carver, Minnesota, USA - NOV 12, 2012
Dark caramel color. White head. Sweet malt aroma. Taste - rye, caramel, near-burnt toast, grassy bitterness. Has some richness but still very drinkable. Not as sweet as you’d expect. A good balance of hops and malt. Palate is on the dry side. I like this one and would buy it again. jcnielsen (3412) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - NOV 11, 2012
Bottle. Pours a brown color with off white head. Caramel, malty, slight nutty aroma. Crisp, malty, caramel, nutty, toast flavors. Pretty nice alt. I enjoyed the two Mankato beers that I picked up while visiting the Twin Cities. Ericular (1022) - Minnesota, USA - OCT 21, 2012
Caramel aroma. Taste is strong, with both malts and then lots of spicy hops. Not my favorite hop flavor, with a little too much bitterness hanging on. I did like the underlying wine flavor that cut through some of the bitterness and gave it more dimension.
