Ale Brewed With Molasses & Ginger Blackstrapped Ginger Stock Ale Our longtime brewer, Jon Hill, drew the short straw at the Manly Beer Club meeting. His charge: make a beer with two distinctly assertive flavors that must fight it out - yet work together. He opted to brew with raw blackstrap molasses and snap it back with fresh ginger root. Some called him crazy, to others he was quixotic, but to most he was Jon.
Inspired by the photo of the great Molasses Disaster of 1918, this beer would need time, but with patience it would be a good disaster - as indeed it is. This fabulously complicated beer starts you with a ginger nose, rolls you through a pronounced body and finishes with the tar-like sweetness of molasses (not unlike black licorice). This beer can be aged to allow the two profiles to mellow out further if it suits your taste.
