Manns Brown Ale has been brewed in Britain since 1902, originally by Thomas Wells Thorpe who was the head brewer of Manns in London. He envisaged the opportunity to move away from IPA and brown stout and create a new beer, claimed to be "the sweetest beer in London". Brewed to the original Manns recipe, this 2.8% ABV ale is now brewed by Thomas Hardy at Burtonwood, it remains the most widely distributed brand of the original style of sweet, low gravity brown ale.

Bottle 500ml.
[ As Manns Brown Ale ]. Clear medium to dark brown color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is light moderate malty, caramel, toffee, brown sugar. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. Very much like a Danish hvidtøl. [20100116]

A deep red beer with a light brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted with notes of chocolate, while the flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and chocolate. The body is thin.

31st October 2008. Clear dark brown ale. Mild malt - just a little sourish. Unsurprisngly watery palate but it’s not too bad a thing as with it’s reasonable flavour it’s quite refreshing.

Bottled (from Beers Of Europe). Deep amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is mild fruits, some slight metallic notes, mild wood as well as mild bittery notes. Flavour is mildly toasted malts, some slight fruityness, mild grass, some syrup, birch sap as well as some wooden notes. Quite rich tonguetickling carbonation.

Dark brown, malty and balanced. Very good for being only 2.8%! ............

Bottle 50 cl. Comes simply as "Manns Brown Ale" - apparently lost its originality... Pours a very dark brown with a creamy beige head leaving some laces. Sweet roasted malts, burned caramel and some butter in the nose. Light body, sweet roasted malts, burned caramel and nuts. No bitterness. Very close to a Danish "Hvidtøl". 160110

Bottle shared with Lyoli. Pours semi-clear, red-brown with a modest, light tan head. Sweet, caramel, brown sugar and cake aroma. Pretty nice flavor, a bit sweet with some syrupy, sugary bread, caramel and cheap toffee. Perhaps some prune or raisin or something. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. Sugary, malty finish with more caramel, bread and some kind of fruit. Not bad. A little awkward but not bad.

Bottle. Medium head with medium duration. Color is dark brown. Aroma and taste are roast malt, nuts, caramel, and notes of fruits.
