Handpull cask at the Magpie & Crown, Brentford. Slightly translucent purplish black, with a ring of tan head. Sweet milk chocolate and liquorice candy in the aroma. Intense sweet taste dominated by liquorice. Some bittering hop tempers the balance later in the sip but it’s a bit too sweet for me. Strangely, it feels like there’s heavy alcohol in the long finish, which makes it taste stronger than it actually is. Bottle from Beers of Europe. Great bottle design. Brown in colour, ruddy hints in the depths, decent white foam. Very complex and chewy beer, quite some bitter roasty malt character, coffee beans, nuts, hint of herbal hop, some underlying malty sweetness. Dark brown with a rocky beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, dried dark fruits and a hint of roasted nuts develop. Softly carbonated and rather smooth offering a medium body. Roast bitterness and light astringency form the main theme here. Medium yet bit dry finish.

Cask. Pours mahogany with tan cream top. Aroma chocolate flake. Tastes smoothly of milk chocolate with licorice to the back to give a tang. No more than medium bodied despite its creamy qualities. On cask at Marble in Chorley. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, roasted grain on the nose. Same to taste with a hint of dark fruit like blackberry. Creamy. Dry and coffee-ish in the finish. Lovely porter in my brother’s new "local". Wish it was mine.
