Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2010. Pours a clear and dark brown beer with a weak head. The aroma is malt and chocolate. The flavor follows the nose closely. The palate is dry with some bitterness. Overall a good beer.

On tap at Annies Burger Shack, Nottingham. Dark like cola and yes there is orange here but not enough chocolate. Tastes a bit like Benylin (other decongestant medicines are available). But nicer.

From cask @ Split Chimp. Pours very dark brown and has strong chocolate aroma. Not much head. Chocolate, slightly sweet taste, with vanilla and a little bitterness in the aftertaste, but not terribly complex on the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Black in colour, Reddish against light. Very Malty; lots of bitter dark chocolate, roast malts, espresso coffee, caramel. Fruity; hint of dried fruits. Hoppy; grassy and earthy hops. Bitter chocolate malty throughout. Dry malty finish. Very drinkable. Nice Porter! (2010-02)

Cask at CBC Islington. Light porter, nice chocolate note. Not too bitter, not too sweet. Slight nuttiness. Not bad.

500ml bottle from Good Spirits Co. Wine & Beer, Glasgow:
This is a beer that I would describe as being a somewhat average offering from the Marble Arch brewery, the beer started fine with some solid malts & plenty of chocolate as promised but there wasnt too much complexity to it & other than some coffee bitterness & the odd background fruit, there wasnt a whole lot else going on which had me losing interest nearer the end. Its definitely not a beer that Id op for over their Lagonda IPA that I tried last but it still remained a drinkable offering, Im just not sure its worth its place in the updated 1001 beers list really.

Great chocolate and coffee aroma, nice initial chocolate flavour, but then it all thins out , both in taste and mouthfeel

Cask @The Hanging Bat, Edinburgh. Pours black with a beige head. Nose is big chocolate and some liquorice with some toffee sweetness as well. Taste is along the same lines with some coffee in there as well, my only fault with the beer is that its a bit thin. [Rating Backlog:Aug/Sept 2016]

Cask at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell. Deep brown with a thin light brown head. Aroma of sweet dark fruits and chocolate. Taste is initially intense with milk chocolate but after a while malty sweetness arrives. Sweet, but in a controlled way.

On cask at hanging bat. Pours opaque black with a splash of red. Nose of dark chocolate, malt loaf, burnt toffee. Taste is more cocoa, bitter coffee, full bodied, chewy.

Handpull cask at the Magpie & Crown, Brentford. Slightly translucent purplish black, with a ring of tan head. Sweet milk chocolate and liquorice candy in the aroma. Intense sweet taste dominated by liquorice. Some bittering hop tempers the balance later in the sip but its a bit too sweet for me. Strangely, it feels like theres heavy alcohol in the long finish, which makes it taste stronger than it actually is. I tend not to like these heavily chocolatey porters/stouts, but I do feel that although this is a decent beer all in all, there are balance issues.
