Pours black with a tan head, good to the eye. Quite a sharp smell of American hops. Coffee, chocolate and resiny hop flavour, pretty good. Perhaps would improve with age as I think mine was a little raw. Still, another quality brew from one of the best brew pubs in the UK.

Note: 6+/10

(Marble Decadence) Bottle 750 ml, corked an caged, served into a snifter at home, ABV 8.7%. Thanks goes to Beersiveknown, cheers Steve! Black coloured body with one finger of beuge head on top, good density and retention. Aroma of olive pit, liquorice, faint chocolate notes. Taste of roasted malts, burnt wood, faint chocolate, light liquorice, nice fruity notes and quite bitter. Medium body with soft carbonation, very dry palate. Nothing extreme but honest and very drinkable.

Bottle (750 ml) shared at tasting. Vintage 2009. Thanks to Alex for this one! Black with a medium beige head. ok retention, leaving little lacing. Flavors of roasted malts, citrusy notes, perfume, liquorice, molasses and cardboard. Taste is mildly acidic with very little sweetness and mild bitterness. Medium body, but it’s starting to feel a bit thin. Moderate carbonation. Mildly tart and spicy finish. Not much alcohol presence. This one was definitely too old. Not super complex. Tartness is awkward even for an european stout but still fun. Ok.

Bouteille 750ml, 2009, bottle share. Couleur brune foncée, mousse moka. Arôme malt torréfié, alcool, oxydé. Goût de malt torréfié, légère acidité, âcre. Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen-faible.

Vintage 2009 donc étiré quelque peu. Mélasse élimée, une sorte de tabac, des gorgées qui révèlent une fumée et/ou un côté cendré. Corps qui porte les stigmates du temps. Enfin, j’imagine.

pours unclear dark brown, red tint, with a small light beige cap, some lacing. perfumey alcohol, liquorice, purple violet flowers, light disturbing acidity, roasted grains, clean. moderate carbonation, light to medium body - oily; lightly tart (!) spicy finish. ugh.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt & hops and notes of coffee and chocolate. Taste follows the aroma. Long bitter finish. Well balanced. Medium body.

Full rich breautiful black stout that’s thick and rich with flavour of dark mocha, chocolate, coffee and deep rich malt. An amazing beer. It’s a desert in and of itself.

Cask at the hanging bat. Pours black, light roasty chocolate, rich, slight liquorice. Tanned way too many of these on my birthday 2 years ago.
