Tap at Bull and Bush. Deep dark clear brown/ruby with a thin ring of foam around the edges. Inviting aroma that is both malty sweet and gently sour, with some nuances of oak, citrus rind, earthy toffee, a touch of sour cherry, and a very subtle bacteria sourness. The flavor, like the nose, does a superb job of balancing malt, fruitiness, and sour tones. It starts sweet with toffee and faintly earthy chocolate, but suddenly there’s this cranberry and orange rind tone that’s lovely in its acidity and it’s fruity overtones, then it finishes with an ever-soft sourness that’s acidic and bacterial with a light oak twang. Brilliant. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 12, 2012
Pour on tap at Bull and Bush of all places, clear and dark red pour with thin white head. Aroma brought notes of vinegar, red ripe fruits with some clean lemon acidity as well, caramel, toffee notes with some nuts come in as well, kind of flanders red style but lighter on the vinegar. Taste is more lemon lactic, sweet red cherry and berry, hints of caramel, vinegar notes with a hint of earthy nuts, finishing fairly sour but balanced. Pretty tasty, though a bit unrefined.
