650 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear, reddish amber (SRM 16) body.....nose is light pine, grapefruit peel, toffee/caramel.....taste is pine, grapefruit, strong toffee/caramel, finishing with a moderate bitterness.....mouth feel medium, slightly sticky, alcohol warmth present. This falls well within the very broad style of "American Strong Ale". The malt and hop backbones are reminiscent of a D/IIPA, although the hop bitterness is more subdued. This combination of aromas and flavors, although spread over several styles, is becoming a bit trite and overdone by the craft industry. Flavors of carmel, grapefruit, orange zest and light pine with a crisp dry bitter lingering citrus finish. cubs (10740) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 2, 2012
Bottle @ home, picked up at Argonaut Denver. Pours a dark rust orange appearance with a very nice, bubbly brown head and nice retention. Rich toasty malty, caramel, a bit burnt, earthy, a touch citrusy hoppy, slightly boozy aroma. Thick, caramel, burnt caramel malty, creamy, a touch piney, grapefruity hoppy, quite rich, somewhat syrupy flavor with some booze on the finish. A little overdone, for me at least. oRos (1674) - sacramento, California, USA - OCT 15, 2012
