1st up lads either use a more expensive champagne closure, or get rid of the wax, its a feat in itself to unwind the very thin wire through the wax, Ive never had this trouble with a champagne bottle, but enough of that belly aching this is really good beer. Pours out a very inviting ruby gold with a solid white head that dissapates very quickly as is the way with barleys of this strength. The nose is deep & complex, marmalade & orange peel, malty notes & fruitiness with an underlying pleasant booziness (not an alcoholic burn like some strong beers). The palate is full rich & smooth, very decandant & silky. Flavours are nice & complex, spicy, floral fruitiness, with a creamy texture & a brandy butter thing going on. Lots of toffee & caramel but with enough bittering hops for balance. There is a boozy quality but again in a nice rich way, not a burn. The finish is long & lovely, 1st up is that sweetness that pervades throughout the whole beer, lots & lots of toffe & then the final fling is of keen drying hops. MY tip is too have with spicy food, I had it with Thai pork & it was stupendous.

75cl bottle from Beer Merchants. An absolute bugger to get open due to the wax seal around the cork, theres obviously an art to prising it off without some sort of cut finger mishap! Tried to contain this beast but the sediment still burst forth out of the bottle and into my glass. Cloudy brown pour with no head. Aromas of ripe plums, raisins, gooseberries, damsons. Very nice. Flavours of treacle toffee, malts, nuts, barley sugars. Reminds me of Stones Double Bastard brew but with slightly more balls. Extremely vinous stuff. Fierce alcohol burn. Improves with every sip. Noble brew, it demands respect.

Tasted blind. Bottled. A black beer with some sediment floating around under a bubbly off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of hops, citrus, and grass. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, carmamel, citrus, and grass as well as lighter notes of alcohol and spices, leading to a dry bitter and nicely hoppy finish.
