Cask (backlog). Very deep reddish brown colour, close to black. Mediumsized creamy brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, toffee, some burnt wood, liquorice and caramel to it. Flavour is nutty, roasted malts, liquorice, chocolate, ripe fruits and mild toffee. A beauty, which is really nice and bold considering the abv too.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2015 Cask conditioned at the Southampton Arms. Coffee and chocolate aroma. Soft at first sip. Then comes this kind of acidity from the roasted grains something like lemon+ashtray. Only an opinion, It’s not my kind of stout, for me is really unbalanced.

Cask in the York Tap. Almost black with a cream head. Nice coffee aroma. Rich and tasty with lots of good roasty flavour. Coffee and chocolate especially. Excellent stout.

ManVsBeer (10452) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JAN 2, 2014
Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Has a heavy roasted malt nose and heavy taste - and full bodied as you might imagine. It’s not quite as tasty as its aroma suggests it might be. Black with a thick off-white creamy head that sticks.

Cask @ CPK. The pour’s deep brown with a small, tan espresso head. The aroma’s rich caramel and toffee candy. Sweet, creamy hot cocoa, chocolate fudge cake. Quite a delectable, sweet aroma. The taste is smooth roasted espresso bean. Lovely rustic earthiness. Charred malts, bitter chocolate. Hints of lactose and marshmallow sweetness on the full finish. Nicely weighty mouthfeel. Oily body, fine carbonation. Overall, a really nice stout. Good economy of flavor.
